Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Does anyone have comments or experience on the Scarpa Avant & Scarpa Spirit3 used in conjunction with Fritschi Diamir & K2 Recon / Rossignol B2 / Dynastar 8000 ?

Are the Scarpa Spirit3 stiffer than Matrix but not as stiff as the Denali ?

The Spirit 3 is stiffer and higher than the Matrix and is only some 100 grammes heavier in the same size. It uses a more advanced double pebax injection and stiffer tongue than the Matrix. The Matrix is not really stiff enough to drive something like a Dynastar 8000.

This has been one of our most popular set-ups in recent years, guides went nuts for them. Twisted Evil

I assume your guides are not low intermediates trying to learn good ski technique?

BTW can you tell us how much vertical and days touring / skiing you've actually done on the Matrix and Spirit 3?

Skied neither, too much volume in the shells. Fit is more important than flex as the flex can be changed and is more-over a question of weight in a touring set-up. We have around 100 guide whom however do use the shop and have a suitable shape and volume of foot for the Lazer/matrix last. Their user based opinions are good feed back for us as without correct footshape we cant ski and test all the boots. The matrix has been favoured of the last 3 years, however the walk/ski position as proved the biggest gripe. Changing the flex will work to "drive the 8000" should the users weight need it, it will however comprimise the uphill performance, a constant battle in the touring world.
Spirit 3 is proving a better boot, however is higher in volume and therfore effecting the precision in decent.
I use Denali with a Tornado coller and tongue and so far this year has been a great improvement in both uphill and downhill flex. So far not too many outings should imagine around 50km this winter so far. Twisted Evil
