Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Glenshee with kids = ski/boot hire

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Thinking about a trip up at the weekend. Is there any quick way of hiring skis and boots for us all? I'm worried about the queues...

Thanks!

You can book online from Gulabin Outdoors at Spittal of Glenshee. I've not used them in a few years as the lads now have their own kit, but from memory was all ok. Have fun!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

the place at Bridge of Cally would be my recommendation. and it seems they've moved to blairgowrie, as i googled them following writing that sentence - http://www.blairskihire.co.uk/

looks like you can book online. although we all now have our own kit, mostly (mrs graz is transitioning to telemark), when we've used them for ourselves or friends they've been very helpful, friendly and flexible.

wherever you choose, definitely better to pick up kit before you get there.

As @grazzenger said, there's ski hire available both at Blairgowrie and the Bridge of Cally from the same company I think. I have used both but struggled with sizes for my young son on both occasions (TBF he was fairly young at the time). I generally now use Scottish Ski Holidays at Blackwater further up the road from Bridge of Cally. There's also hire available from Freshtracks a bit further still before you get to the Spittal and Gulabin lodge.

I had a great time on the pair of Fischers I hired from Blackwater on Saturday, unfortunately I didn't get a chance to push them down the tiger on Sunday (which I don't think opened anyway, ?wind stopped play) due to the ensuing chaos on the roads up to Glenshee Sad But, Fortunately, on returning to Blackwater they gave us a credit note for the hire for the day. Just need to organise my next trip to use it now. Laughing

I've never been up from Braemar so not sure if there is hire available from that side, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't. Again to echo what @grazzenger said, to make sure you get the most out of the time when going up at the weekend, hire before you get there.

@bluestrobe @grazzenger Heard the Blackwater has closed is that right? Used to be ok but gone to the dogs I think...... Kids used to love the Blackwater Inn back in the day

@SkiEcosse, Blackwater Inn has been closed for years, but the ski hire place next door probably hasn't (don't take much interest as we have kit). I don't think I've seen the Blackwater Inn open in the 13 years I've lived in Blair.

There is a ski hire shop in Braemar, in a magnificent building right as the A93 does a right angle turn in the village. Don't know about the choice. Think it's called Braemar ski hire.

@SkiEcosse, Never been in the Blackwater Inn when it was open, but it is definitely closed although there seems to be some work ongoing there at the moment (think it may be a private residence now). The ski hire in the building next door is definitely alive and well as we hired from there the weekend before last. @what...snow, Gotta agree regarding the fantastic building in Braemar for the ski hire, although when we hired from there three weeks ago, some of the equipment wasn't that greatly maintained.

@bluestrobe, I heard the Blackwater hire had really taken a downturn, friend hired there and the gear was abysmal. Never again he said, shame as they were great back in the day! Used to stay in Kirkmichael and hire there

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

I'm nearly 100% sure someone has been running ski hire out of that building in Braemar for a number of years. It's a seasonal thing though, not a permanent shop/operation.
