Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val Thorens Tips

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
There are 4 of us heading out this coming Sat for 1 week. We are staying in the Chalet Balcons.
We are looking for some advice on some good areas to ski for the week.
3 of us are confident skiers and 1 is a nervous skier who will probably to a few lessons.
We prefer Piste skiing.
Any info appreciated.

I'm also off to VT on Saturday and looking for piste tips. Have the full 3 valley pass...although not sure how much of that can be used given recent conditions.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Where to start with 600kms of piste to choose from?

In general...

Cime Caron, Peclet and La Masse are the closest areas for concentrated, more advanced, on-piste skiing where you'll not find so many beginners/ timid intermediates.

Avoid pistes above Les Menuires on Meribel side except for transiting to elsewhere, they're usually rammed (but the reds Jerusalem and Pramint down towards St Martin are emptier and fun)

Good reds down into Meribel and Meribel Mottaret but can get busier.

Mont du Vallon at the top of the Meribel valley has only 2 pistes - good, long reds and being a 'dead end' it's usually less busy.

Head over to Courchevel and 'turn right' to Roc Merlet where there are less crowds if it's busy and good reds/ blues from there over to above Courchevel 1650.

Above Courchevel 1850 there's a concentration of good blacks like Suisses, M and Pylones.

That should get you started!

Do the Escapade!
We always look on the piste map to find all the lifts with a little symbol next to them, then try to do all these lifts in as shorter time as possible. When done, go to the lift office and get your certificate for the escapade! Apparently it can be done in a day, but it normally takes us 2.5-3 days of cruising. Always a good way of seeing the whole 3 valleys.

Lovely runs into the Orelle (the 4th valley) too.

Oh, and a favourite is a blast down the black piste Dou des Lanches from Col de la Loze above La Tania. It's more of a dark red and for some reason, whenever we ski it, it's empty meaning you can really push yourself.

Over in the Orelle valley, go to the top of Bouchet and see if you fancy taking the short cut back to VT! Otherwise, the pistes back down from there are great.

The black off Cime Caron into the Orelle valley is an ex-itinerary and a good long run.

Hmmm, looking forward to 28th Feb!
