Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Bindings for Big Feet!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
My son who's 17 & 6'4" has feet to match - he's now wearing a pair of Size 16 (!!) boots which is causing problems with the ski bindings as I had a go at adjusting them myself & realised it's beyond the max (so no trip to cairngorm tomorrow alas).
Does anyone know if a ski shop is likely to be able to do anything with the bindings or am I going to have to source some super pricey extra long binding? Any advice gratefully received!

The bindings could be redrilled to accommodate the boot size. I would expect any ski shop to be able to do this while you wait if they are free (any ski shops in Cairngorm?). More expert solutions to follow I expect.

@malarkey99, what bindings? Redrilling generally not an issue. You can do yourself if you like...

As an aside, I thought from the title this was going to be about the bindings on Kneissl Big Feet! Laughing

Hahaha! Yes that's what you get on Google if search it. Nearest ski shop is Perth, they usually give all the sets of planks a service. I appear to have 3 more pair of skis than I actually need.....time to get them on eBay.
Thanks for advice, I thought I could probably get them re drilled. Just annoying as glorious day here & all the lovely snow waiting on me & can't go as guilt would overwhelm me if left eldest at home!

What kind of ski/binding does he currently have? If it is a separate toe and heal piece it should be a simple case of remounting, if it is a all rail system it maybe a little more tricky.

Rossignol skis & bindings, they are a few years old. Shop have just said they can probably redrill, might just be a case of doing the toe piece, so off to see them later today.

er don't let them just do the toe piece else they will be mounted too far forward, both bindings need remounted as the boots are bigger

Ah but alas the 3 spare pairs are not mine (I only have 2 pairs at the moment) so obviously I will have to sell them to fund buying another shiny new pair for myself hehehehe

Good news is that nice ski shop man has managed to manipulate bindings to fit the enormous boots so no re drilling, only servicing for them all so hoping for a sunny day or several next week to get out on the slopes for a bit of practice in Scotland before hitting Italy for our holiday Very Happy

@jbob, his skis are still ok, prob getting slightly short but not by that much, they are over 170. Can't remember exact size.

Duh.....a joke....bit slow on the uptake, yeah he gets that one a lot from skiing friends.
That & the oooo aren't you tall? (generally from old rellies)
It's hubbys fault really, his family are giants! I seriously hope son's feet don't grow anymore as I don't think I can get any bigger ski boots.

@malarkey99, more seriously, the size of his feet will substantially impact the din setting on his bindings and he may just be off the charts. As a rule, bigger feet need a lower setting.

Ok @jbob will ask ski shop to have a look at that when go to collect the ski collection on Saturday. Need to dump some of them on eBay but really can't be arsed with the posting/wrapping hassle.
Hoping for ok weather next week so can get out on the slopes (luckily live within hour & 1/2 of Cairngorm, Glenshee & Glencoe) as no nasty work to get in the way......it will of course all melt or turn into sheet ice....
