Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiing in Scotland

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I just saw a competition in Fall Line to win a touring course at Glencoe. The idea of skiing in Scotland intrigues me but I know very little about it. A fellow skier on a holiday a couple of years ago told me it was pointless because whenever there is any good snow the roads are all closed and you can't get there. He was from Inverness so I didn't completely dismiss it as exaggeration.

So some questions:

Does it work like the Alps as in can you just book a week and turn up? How easy are the resorts to get to? If you fly up where would be best (I ask because I'm down in Southampton so driving isn't really practical)? And how do you get from there to the resorts.

I've also heard that the off-piste and touring is good. Are there guides/instructors? Or are there clubs or snowHeads I could join in with?

@henzerani, Plenty of info kicking around but a recent thread:

http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?p=2601140&highlight=scotland#2601140

I have another reason to be up in Scotland visiting family so in the winter I take my gear, if conditions warrant skiing I ski if not I wait until next time......

I've had some of my ski days ever in Scotland, but it's very different to the Alps and from a cost/logistical perspective as someone as far south as you it might be just as quick to get to the Alps.

Biggest draw back with Scotland is you can't plan ahead, you normally on seeing conditions are good be able to pack the car and head ASAP. I only really know Glencoe and Nevis Range due to proximity to free bed and board Very Happy

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Bene, thanks. So for a southern boy like me it's really just if the opportunity presents itself. It will stay on my bucket list though.
