Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

La Plagne: Lift pass options for complete beginner

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

I'm taking my dad skiing for the first time in a few weeks and looking at staying in Belle Plagne.

He's never skied before but would like to try, but actually may end up just hiking/snow shoeing most of the time.

We're only going for 4 days, can anyone suggest what lift pass would be the best option for him? The magic carpet in Bellecote seems like the best place to try out skiing for him, but then hiking wise it would be good for him to have access to the gondola as well.

Cheers in advance for any help!

There is the issue. If you need more than nursery slopes or want to use a gondola then you are going to need some sort of lift pass. See this link. Scroll down and you will see info for pedestrians. http://www.la-plagne.com/en/winter/ski/prices/all-prices.html

All the resort centres have a couple of free lifts for total beginners. There is then a cool pass for beginners that want to go higher for 29e per day

Using the pedestrian lifts and free navettes it is possible to access all the altitude villages without showing a lift pass.

The only likely outcome for your dad putting skis on for the first time and trying to slide down a slope is disaster and misery. Oxygene pick up by minibus from Belle Plagne (I think). They are very flexible and will be able to give him a positive experience for his first time on skis. Do this, unless you want to put him off for life.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

In Belle plagne the teleski at the top of the village is free - about a 200m run, protected from passing traffic, and pretty gentle - ideal for a complete beginner

@eblunt, thanks, I thought I'd heard that somewhere - I presume that doesn't include pedestrians kitted out in full ski gear heading down for a lesson at Bellecote???

I'm guessing getting down wouldn't be the problem. It's a different entrance at BP to the one all the skiers would take as they are going up. Getting back up could be more tricky. I would still try the separate pedestrian gate (no pass needed) at Bellecote and see if the stop you ...
