ise, do you think peeps stay clear because of the super-rich rep of the residents? I've often assumed that it must be prohibitively expensive, but the pix of the skiing look just brilliant.

The mass market operators simply won't be able to bring in the kind of numbers they want and some of the other operations in France at the fringe of legality would be shut down pretty quick as well. The market's been successfully conditioned to only go to a dozen (at most) locations, Gstaad's just not one of them.
