Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

'Ride' brand clothing - any good?

So I've spotted some, what look like, nice ski pants, but I've never heard of this brand before. Does anyone know what they are like? The photography on the website isn't great and doesn't show the back, but the front looks nice Laughing

Ride - owned by K2 when I last looked. Technically then a snowboard brand, but owned by a ski company, if anyone cares.

I happen to have some, as per this shot. I think this is the second season I've used these, so they wear pretty well (I ride quite a lot).

That specific pair are in fact snowboard pants, so there's no ski protection around the ankles. They work fine. They're not quite as tough as the Burton AK stuff, and they're not GoreText, but they're not bad and they work fine. Arguably a bit more trendy than AK, not that I'd know. These specific pants need braces to hold them up, which they don't come with.[/url]

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks @philwig for the reply.

The only thing is that they look a bit, lank - is that the word? Not on your photo, but on their sales photos. I don't mind baggy - I prefer baggy - but these look like they just hang there. But if they're more like in your picture then they'll be fine.

I didn't realise there was a difference with ankle protection? What exactly is that all about?

@JanieS, Some ski pants have a mesh guard on the inside of the ankle to prevent the ski edges from slicing through the fabric. Like these: http://www.sweetprotection.com/ski-snowboard/technical-clothing/womens/?p=diamond-pants-wmn%C2%B4s&pid=755#4928

I wouldn't worry too much - it tends to put the price up and any cheap trousers you buy as a beginner will probably get replaced after a few trips anyway, as they will likely suffer some abuse. I don't recommend light colours as they will get filthy.

@scarlet thanks for that. I didn't know the difference so it's useful to know.

Yup, what (s)he said.

You'll see plenty of skiers wearing snowboard company gear including many guides. There's not really any difference I can think of other than the issue noted. I'm way to old to know, but I believe snowboard stuff is now getting skinny wink You can even get one piece snowboard suits.
