Not really a "Welsh problem" do buses stop a a road station? I think these terms for the place where a train becomes stationary have become interchangeable since the 60s.

No, it's an American (and lazy education!) problem! Apparently, every time the serial offenders at the BBC incorrectly say 'train station', the corporation is inundated with outrage and complaints!

@LOTA An American usually refers to it as a railroad station. Interestingly the unqualified word station is defined in the OED as a place where trains stop (among several possible definitions) The google Ngram still finds Railway Station as the most common term in books out of the three expressions "train station, railway station and railroad station", it is interesting that train station became increasingly popular from the 1960s through to 2000 but has been falling from favour since then presumably as pedantry has become a reason to complain to the BBC
So I accept your grammatical correction but note that train station is now and accepted slang term on both sides of the Atlantic

@tarrantd, that's big of you! I think its an etymological correction rather than a grammatical one!
Not quite so off topic as you might think as, for the last decade or so, I've tended to choose ski resorts with railway stations as I much prefer the train for my transfer these days! See last week's snowmageddon if you need convincing!

@ymh, during the winter there is usually a temporary building set up outside the station to act as a luggage storage place. It's about 1 euro per bag if I remember rightly. It doesn't stay open very late (around 9pm I think, again from memory) which isn't great if you're looking for somewhere to leave bags for the evening while waiting for the evening Eurostar. I've tended to just head to the Auberge de Savoie hotel in the main square (about 100m from the station) with bags - they have always been very accommodating of me, my bags, and children with good food and a nice bar.

Arriving by train wouldn't have helped you much if you had arrived in Moutiers on Saturday 27th. Most of those that did were stranded there. The gym at the school was only letting in families with young children. There were no taxis, as nothing could get in or out of the town. We had friends arrive at the station at 3pm. They could see our house from Moutiers, but had no way of getting to us. We couldn't get out of our village, as the main road was completely blocked with abandoned cars.

Which is exactly why I like resorts with railway stations (Arosa, Engelberg, St Anton etc)!
