Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Daft question - hire car with ski rack

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We'll be hiring a car in Norway next month, and I've hired a ski rack for the car so that we can go to a resort a few miles away. Never having used a ski rack before, do I need to take anything (bungies, for example) to attach/secure the skis to the rack or do the sets of skis merely clip into the rack? Any advice/abuse gratefully received.

Cheers

Dobby

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

You shouldn't need anything.

Be careful, though. I've never found that the ski rack I've ordered has actually been fitted to the car at the time I collected it. Each time I've had to go back to the rental desk and ask them to fit it for me. One time the rack was left locked and I wasn't given the key at first - another thing to beware of. In other words, check that the rack is installed and working before you leave with the car.

These days I prefer to hire an SUV and chuck the skis in the boot. It's a little more expensive, but I've become lazier as I've grown older.

@Jonny Jones, thanks for the warning. I'd have to sell my other kidney to hire an SUV in Norway. While the rest of the holiday is not that expensive, the car hire (even for a mid-size Golf type car) is eye-wateringly so.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

You skis may not be completely safe on the rack, so dont leave them unattended for long periods (theft)

@dublin2, good point. They'll only be on the rack to transport between resorts, so hopefully we'll not have to leave them unattended for long periods.

We've successfully used a set of temporary strap on board racks which will carry several sets of skis and pack into your ski bag for transport,
