Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

anyone got a pair of these expensive beauties? Tried a pair on in TSA yesterday, felt great and looked good but curious if they are worth the premium over other goggles such as Smith, Scott etc...

zippy, Yes i do.Fabulous goggles and well worth the investment. Great in sunny and bright conditions. I also have a pair with persimmon lens for flat light days.

I managed to pick up mine on ebay through a distributer who gets them direct from US. Under £100.

olliebonk, most double glazed goggles will provide a reasonable level of anti-fog, and you should be able to get a pair from around £30. Goggles frequently fog over if you take them off while riding a chairlift, etc. If you keep them on your face, most of the time you'll be OK.

olliebonk, Get down to your nearest Somerfield Supermarket, they carry Tchibo stuff (it's decent kit) The goggles they had in last week were double lens amber (good for most bright conditions), well ventilated and very comfortable. at 10£ a real bargain for a first buy. Aldi also have double lens goggles in stock right now at a similar price.

These stores don't restock so get yer bum down there and have a look. You can always buy the high end name brand kit when you've got the funds for it.

Oh ... and hi, welcome to slushnuts Laughing

I've been warned off Oakleys by several different retailers, both in the US and Canada. Both times I was steered to other brands (by retailers who stocked Oakleys) on the grounds that Oakley were overpriced and either no better or of worse quality. Agreed, they look the dogs, but I'd like my $100 to last longer than one season/fall. I now have a nice pair of Smiths that fit my helmet, and they are in their 3rd season....

Be careful when buying the Wisdoms that they fit your helmet. I found out that they dont fit mine. Went with A-Frames instead. Not as cool looking but do the job very well.

cheers for that, I've got a Red helmet from last season and my existing Smith goggles fit really well with them without adjustment. Perhaps I should take my helmet with me to the ski shop (bit of a pain to take it into central london!) or just wait until I get out to Les Arcs in Jan and see what the local ski shop has in stock.

olliebonk, yeah, I've been wearing Oakleys (A-frames, with the helmet strap) for several years - used to wear Smiths. The two things I like about Oakleys are:
1. Lens quality. It is excellent.
2. Customer service. Something that most brands don't care much about, yet Oakley will give you a freepost box, and normally a 7 day turn around.

Might want to give high-end goggles a try before splurging on them. On the first day of this season (Nov 6th for me) I left my goggles in the car of someone I drove to Whistler with, and didn't get them back until 2 days ago. Had 7 days of boarding in between, and borrowed various pairs of goggles from different friends in the mean time. I have tried Oakley A-frames, high end Von Zippers, and many others, and to date my favourite pair of goggles was a $15 CAD pair of Scotts Smile A-frames tied with a pair of mid-range Smiths for second. I find that orange lenses are the best for a variety of light conditions anyways (though it is nice to have yellow lenses on low light days), and I really did not find that the price of the goggles had much effect on the anti-fogging properties - the $150 Von Zippers I used were easily the worst for fogging up. The A-frames were fine, but so were most of the cheap goggles I used as well. I also found that the cheaper goggles tended to have softer frames, and were generally more comfortable. Could not for the life of me tell any differences in "optical quality" between cheap and expensive goggles.
Anyways, just my 2 cents worth. With every other piece of equiptment I think it's worth splurging, but in my mind/experience goggles are just plastic and foam.

frostie1861, how does this helmet strap differ from the one that comes as standard on the Wisdoms?
ski holidays

the main difference is the arms attaching the strap to the face piece. they are wider and so mean that the arms dont catch or sit badly on the edge of the helmet. personally this has made a world of difference as before the googles didnt sit snugly on my face, now they do.

the strap also has plasticy rubbery stuff (very technical description in know.... Puzzled ) on the inside of the strap to stop it sliding around on the helmet.
