Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Pirmasens to Landau - advice

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi. Just a bit of advice from all you experienced European drivers.

Last year Samberg Sue suggested the route down from Calais, through Luxemburg, to Austria. I used the route suggested but missed the turn off at Pirmasens to Landau, the 10, I think. It did make the trip a little longer following the autobahn a but wasn't that bad really. Anyway, I am determined to use that "short-cut" along that A road, but only if advisable.

We will be taking it on the very early hours of Monday morning. My questions are:
Anyone know what the conditions are like on that road?
Will there be signs updating drivers of the conditions on that road? If so, what will they say cow not a great German linguist!
Is it advisable taking that route not knowing exactly what to expect?

I have snow tyres and driven Europe many times, just not this part of the route.

Any advice will be gratefully accepted. Thanks

P.S. Sorry if it is in wrong part of forum. I thought of "Snow conditions" but on road, not piste!

@Dougie, You need to look for the B10 AFTER the Neukirchen Kreuz (interchange), so stay on the A8 until Pirmasens then take the A62 in the direction of Ramstein and Kaiserslauten. The junction for the B10 is the first one after the road number changes from the A8 to the A62.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Samerberg Sue, Thanks. Got the route programmed in properly this year. I know that route goes quite high but is it likely to be impassable? In the conditions expected, would it be wiser to stick to autobahns?

I think you'll be fine. It is a big road and is generally kept pretty clear- if it's not clear I doubt the autobahn will be either. But it is steep in parts, so if it is snowing heavily when you get to the junction you'd probably be best served staying on the autobahn if you want to avoid using chains (although winters may still be fine on their own).

I drive it 4+ times a year in the middle of the night and generally it's quite busy. Don't ever recall seeing any signs setting out conditions though.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@W94, Thanks for that. Will check it before setting off on Internet then probably stick to autobahn. Cheers

It is a key link for HGVs so it has priority status and is kept clear @Dougie. As the trucks pay on a per km and weight basis to use the roads, the shortest route as well as the fastest is important for them.
