and would be grateful if anyone ,who has done it , has any tips on the route (extra runs ,good place for lunch, pinch points etc )
We will start and end at the Armenterolla in St Kassian(o).
Thanks

Currently closed due to lack of snow, but hopefully that will change before your holiday. In fact most days this week have been blue skies and sunshine.

cstreat, The Dolomites were the scene of bitter alpine fighting in WW1 between the Austrians and Italians. The conditions for the troops based there were (in a different way) as bad as for those in the trenches of the Western Front. In the case of these troops they had to fight in the winter cold. Many of the casualties were caused by avalanches deliberately triggered by the enemy shelling above their positions.

@brnttptr, Anticlockwise would be the better choice for your location, there is a nice place for the late afternoon stop after lagazuoi down in the hidden valley.
Or if you want to have a overnight stay up in the mountain either Rifugio Averau or Rifugio Lagazuoi (both are nice - but quite different).

@Alastair Pink, I am aware of that!! I just wanted the skiing info. As most sites were defensible mountaintops, I wondered how the skiing fitted in.@albob, Thanks

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Given good conditions I am going to give it a go in January. Anti clockwise from Arabba, I will by-pass Marmolada as I will do that & its Museum on a separate day. It looks likea tight schedule to have time to do late lunch at Scotoni Justice, if not that is a must for another day. I will cut the tour short after the Hidden Valley & head back to Arabba before lifts close. The other bits of the tour I may do later in either direction. Breaking the tour as @Hyst says at the refuge would be perfect giving time to linger & inspect the relics.

I've done it anti-clockwise from Arabba...mid-morning coffee at the top of the Civetta area and made Scotoni's for a mixed grill platter just after 1pm!!
Obviously helps if you catch the 2 buses (Malga Ciapela or Sottoguda-Alleghe & Pescul-Fedare) without too much of a wait and don't go wrong in the Civetta area. You stay on the bus in Alleghe until just past the gondola base station and walk back 50m, don't get off in the town.
Don't try and do the Marmolada too if it's your first time round, you might need that time later if you take a wrong turn.
Good thing about this area is that wherever you need to stop there's always a nice rifugio with good food available. You want to press on as it would be costly if you got stuck many kms from hotel.
Definitely worth doing...nothing like that sense of travelling (80km total in a day) anywhere else!

You know it makes sense.

I'd like to try the Clockwise (Blue) route some time taking in Cinque Torri & Marmolada but leaving out the Hidden Valley, though I have done these before as separate daytrips. Civetta is worth exploring more fully too...from Arabba you can ski over to Malga Ciapela, get the bus, have a good look around and come back mid-afternoon in time to catch the lifts back to Arabba.
One thing I remember is that one of the chairlifts (Padon II) in the Malga Ciapela-Marmolada area was wiped out by an avalanche during the snowmageddon last Feb...I don't know if they've repaired it now??

AFAIK all the lifts were repaired. Also funky gasex avalanche things installed.
