Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Travel through France on Boxing Day

I like to drive from South Wales to Troyes on the first day, stay the night, have a good meal with the family and then onto Chamonix the next morning. Next year we're leaving on Boxing Day, is everything shut in France or will I still be able to go out for a nice meal and a few relaxing drinks. I need it after a long drive with the kids!

@Jonesj, boxing day is not a holiday in France.

Thanks. At the moment I have a family mutiny as they don't want to travel on Boxing Day. They want to fly but for 6 of us it would cost a fortune.

What's not to like about? Roads were quiet as all the NY traffic was already further south and installed in their apartments.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Couldn't agree more. I have a fee months to try and talk the wife around. Hopefully she'll forget to check for flights when they're released and then we'll have to drive.

I have never had any problems with travelling through boxing day. Service stations are open and the usual indifferent food is available. But if you want to go on a ski holiday you have to travel, we have started on Xmas afternoon, and boxing day many times!

We're off on the same route as yourselves on Boxing day. It's a hassle free drive that day and, as MarkyMark said, you can load up your car and have everything that you need when you're there. Don't listen to them - car is best!

I'm going the day after boxing day. Hope the traffic is light, I have 18 - 20 hours of driving over two days.

Boxing Day is a Saturday next year, so it won't be particularly quiet, just usual transfer day traffic?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@Gämsbock, but OP said he was only travelling as far as Troyes, so he will miss the transfer traffic.
