Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

hard to tell with pov footage but he didn't look any worse than this guy

this one from gforce, maybe somewhat ironically called "why I have no friends"

It is true he doesn't huck any cliffs or do spins like you did in your video but he seems to be skiing well as far as my totally untrained eye goes.

Yeah that one is better, it's still just ok though, I didn't say the guy is a bad skier, just mediocre ie average. Certainly not good enough to criticise everyone else's videos.

Sorry I got sucked in by this troll, reminds me why I don't post much!

Looks like the Saudan Couloir in really nice condition.

On a lighter note, back in the day they used to start a race there.

@Kenny, terrible, terrible music...but a fun vid.

Interesting that the only skier featured who was nailing it (at 3.55 or so) was on a monoski!

Jimmer you really are not contributing very much to the discussion. You wanna 'quote' my vids - be my guest. Where are yours ?
You wanna take my complaint about only finding bad vids by Euro-brits personally ? Go ahead. Bring it on- but bring a decent vid with you... of you. Got any finds like this new vid that davidof posted ?
BTW i did think this new vid was a really decent ski ( HAH !! - by a skier I 'could' be better than...) I want to ski there.
... and now back to the main point of this thread.
I would hope that you have watched more and learned some good stuff from the technical ski video sessions - the main point of my thread.
Here is another great skier, from Quebec, with someting to say:

ps: davidof: them were the days... of straight skis. Now it is anyone everyone everywhere anytime. BTW: the top was way too steep to groom but this section met grooming way up into the bowl and it was set in real GS gates for another couple course lengths.

gforce - are you reading this thread? Jimmer posted one above plus links to his other vids.
Personally I wouldn't criticise your skiing - it looks a lot like mine on a good day Very Happy
But I'm afraid you are going to find that Jimmer is in a different class, so he can criticise you if he has a mind too. But if you actually read the thread, he is really having a go at your attitude not your skiing - Brits like their understatement and "mediocre" on Jimmer's scale is probably pretty decent in most people's books.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Hahaha, still such a great attitude, please come back and teach us Brits how to ski/make videos again soon.

I like the JF videos though, he's great.

Devil's Advocate time...

JF talks too much; it's the CSIA disease. Blah blah blah snore. If I hear about that bloody marble in the bowl just one more time...

Race coaches around Whistler and North Van roll their eyes and shake their heads at the hips-back Dr Ken et al. advocate.

Dr Ken talks up counter and tip lead. BASI used to have the idea that being 'squared up' was biomechanically superior. That squared up fad is over, anyone still teach that?

JF has some great vids just watch the ones that are numbered such as the one below, he just lets the skis do the talking.

I am putting this stuff up for you Euro-Brits who can't ski fer s**t and keep posting ' Turkeys in The Amazing Alps ' videos on yootoob.
Damn you all for wasting my time as I search in vain for EXPERTS IN EXPERT TERRAINS IN THE ALPS. Here they go again skid-skid-fail; skid-skid-bail.

THIS ! is the problem.

YOUR ! attitude.

Be grateful anyone and everyone who posts vids does so firstly theirs might be the only one out there for that particular run or even that resort.

Secondly the really great skiers would not stand out as as being soo great without those other vids of the great, the really good, good and at the far end the mediocre. Plus everyone including the really great at some point were mediocre themselves while learning. So be a bit more humble gain more respect and if you are a good skier become a good role model as well that those not as good can look upto and aspire to.

Some vid posters put stuff up thinking it is fun or cool and it is in fact really dangerous. The fact they put it up allows those who know to try and educate them and to show others who might think something like that is hilarious just how dangerous it actually is. The Americans have just as many people posting stuff like that as any other nation size for size.

and there we were thinking Canadians had manners . . . Confused I slide both sides of the pond and the average skier \/boarder is just that . . . AVERAGE! Every last one of us has good and bad technique habits, we can nail parts of the slope and flail on others. there are very few EXPERTS anywhere. There are many peeps in North America who call themselves 'expert', far more than those who do in Europe so perhaps just a little less smug asshatery and a little more introspection may grant you a honorific that doesn't rhyme with "frat" . . . Your third post in the thread and you crap on 90% of everyone rolling eyes

JamesWinfield - Sorry: I completely missed the (tiny) link to your site. Just back online today.
You have nice vids and excellent photos and are skiing in some great places. You look good in the gates at Saas Fe , too.
I put up the first link to the indoor sessions and Ade replied. I put up the second link two weeks later.
I put up my crappy condemnation out of frustration at only wading thru dozens of vids like these : hence eurobrits and turkeys:

I want more like THIS:
http://youtube.com/v/DgF2HlbrGaY or the one davidof posted: That is a good rip.

I don’t care about ‘vid quality’. I just wanted some decent skiing and shots that run longer than the take-off and landings usually found in ski vids. The WB ones are mostly ‘pillow-fests’.
I put up an obvious link to my vids - not because they are great vids; I know they are not These vids are just long and undedited rippers around Whistler/Blackcomb. These are just "Average Days" and only the mis-quoted ‘why i have no friends’ is "one of those days " ( eat it Speed and Masque - I gots your language and manners hangin’ ). I usually get about 100 ‘average' days like this. Twenny to Thirty better and some days don’t work at all (Especially this season when capitalism has ripped up the ski world’s jet stream and cold temps).
… but I digress. Please post links to decent vids of serious skiers in the Alps.

I put up the session links because they are good 'how to'. This is not a debate about my skiing being better than…or who gets to critic whose skiing...
So far as the attitude of who has a Bigger Ski Technique… This was not part of the debate. These are great how to vids; if you have an attention span.
So; if Speed thinks that the marble in the bowl is not worth his time; now, it is a discussion about ski theory.
Good luck with that.
I took some of the things JF said and changed my skiing for the better. Especially the points about getting too compressed at the end of the turn and losing mobility.

skimottaret: Links here to tuning vids… Like Willie sez: most people think they are on LESS of a BASE BEVEL than they actually have; or have attempted to file to.
http://youtube.com/v/fxOTdT55HNY or ARTTECH
http://youtube.com/v/yXyQzSh-PxYthenI generally start the season with ‘more’ base bevel… a looser ski. Usually from last year’s tune , because; why grind until more snowfall will preserve the fresh grind ? After getting them ground FLAT I attempt to bevel less because I get stronger as the season tunes me up.
Imagine a totally flat ski with flat bases to totally flat edges. It would not want to be moved aside - from under you - at all; before the corner of the edge would start to dig into the snow. A .5 allows movement from mass-center and the skis to move to the right distance for a geometry of managable grip. A ski with too much B-Bevel initiates easily; then feels loose and then feels almost hooky as the base begins to grip in a turn. I really doubt Anyone is on a ski with a straight line from corner of the edge to corner of the edge.
If you say the real guys use a .25; then this is a first for me. I know the WC guys are superhumans but..
