Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New ski boots - Extra items in box

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Just picked up a new pair of boots (Atomic Waymaker Carbon 100) and in the box along with the manual (if you can call it that!) and the adjustment tool there were a couple of other items.

There is a pair of black plastic plates that seem to fit into the bottom of the boot, under the liner at the heel end. They are are about 2-3mm thick with one end curved downwards. What are they for?

There is also 8-10 thin, circular self adhesive stickers which I assume are to be used to protect the liner from some of the hardware mounting points on the inside of the shell. Can someone confirm?

Thanks

the plastic plates are a heel lift, and yes the discs are to protect the liner form the ankle rivets if you are doing a lot of hiking

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks CEM!

What are the heel lifts for and under what conditions (biomechanics?) would they be used?

Thanks again

Heel lifts have several applications.

1) they increase the effective forward lean of the boot.

2) some people (especially with bigger calfs) find that the cuff happens to press on a awkward spot, causing discomfort. By lifting the heel the calf muscle changes position slightly and the cuff grips slightly lower, which is narrower.

3) It reduces boot volume at the heel. So if your heel lifts off the footbed, putting in heel lifters can help fix the problem.

Can heel lift plate be bought over the counter?
My new boots are slightly tight on the calf.
