Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Not to sure what size ski i should be buying? I weigh 75kg and im 5ft 9".
Do i go for 170cm or 160cm? Puzzled
At the moment i have been skiing with 170cm and a few guys in ski shops said i will be ok on both sizes. Im so confussed which would be best for me.
I ski mainly on Blue and Red Runs with the occasional black.
Any help would be great. Smile

I'm 73kg and 5ft 9.5" - ski 170's

If you head off piste the extra float is handy. Really depends how you ski - if you tend to go for it a little aggressively then I'd recommend the longer version.

surfski, How tall is 5'9"? Basically about nose to eyebrow height should be fine for you as you describe yourself. BTW lots of skis are in 161,162,163 etc......... I currently have 168, 163, 155, and 169s. Shocked

surfski,

Depends what ski you want to buy. Decide on the ski first, then ask about the length.

Scarpa, easiski, Thanks for your help. So it looks like then anything between 160-170cm is fine for me. I do sometimes ski a little aggressive but not excessive.

I have been looking at a pair of Nordica SUV 8.1 XBS and they do 154cm, 164cm, 171cm and 178cm.
So i guess the 164cm is right size for me in those?

Also been looking at the Rossignol Zennith Z5 and again the sizes are very similar, 154-162-170-176.

surfski, For those type of skis I should definitely go slightly shorter rather than longer (162/164). Remember, longer skis are harder to turn, and can put you in the backseat a little. It's fine for all these freeride types, but you (by your own admission) are not in that category. Having personally grown up skiing monstrously long skis, I can't understand why anyone wants to these days when it's not necessary any more!!! Puzzled Puzzled Puzzled

easiski, You are right, i'm not a freeride skier and don't do off piste really except on the side of the pistes sometimes.
Now its just upto which ski do i go for. Looking at the prices and reviews on both ski's they have had good wright ups. They both cover Intermediate/Advanced skier level 6/7.
The Nordica skis are cheaper than Rossignol and also easier to find than the Zennith Z5, so it look's like the SUV 8.1 XBS are the one's for me.
I was looking at the Suv 10.1 XBS which cost £350 but again they are mail order only and i can get the SUV 8.1 XBS from Ellis Brighams for £300.
I also like the look of the new XBS Binding system on the Nordica skis as they supposed to give you better balance and put the pressure in the right place if you make an error.

I have the SUV 10s (said I'd check!) and I find them reassuringly solid and safe - but I am a small, light and not very aggressive woman on 150s. My husband who is far more competitive/fast/attacking has just bought himself a pair of Scott aztecs and is delighted with them (until he skiied over a few rocks that is). Hope that helps.
Having said that, going down an icy Suisses in Courchevel a few days ago the person holding on best was my 10 year old son on rossignol power 8 racing juniors ...

Puzzled could that be something to do with technique I wonder?

Thanks for letting me know but i now have a pair of last years brand new Rossignol Zenith Z3 162s which was in the sale in Solihull whie staying with Family over xmas. Got them reduced from £380 down to £234. If the Nordica SUV 10.1 xbs was easily available i would have gone for those, but looking at both skis i thought they performed almost the same reading reviews.
Just cant wait to be on them from JAN 14TH to Val Gardena! Smile
