Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where to go on a tight budget?

Okay...I'm looking for suggestions for the two weeks over Easter. I'm in Austria the week before and Val Thoren (EOSB) the week after, so it needs to be in the vague proximity of them (ie not Bulgaria!!).

The original plan had been to take a tent and camp, but numerous people have told me that is really crazy. So.....any suggestions of where I can find dirt cheap accommodation (for 1) in a reasonable resort?

Don't laugh but what about Wengen, try http://www.old-lodge.ch/ mind you it would be late in the season but it is about half way between the two locations Laughing

The only one I've tried is the Bahnhof, which was fine.

Elizabeth B, there are a couple of possibilities here. At Easter it shouldn't be too cold, and as you're a hardy type you could camp in Venosc which has a very nice campsite, with all mod cons. Alternatively you could book into the Auberge de Jeunesse (youth hostel) which is cheap and with good food (also close to lifts and more or less ski in). In addition there are the UCPA which is a sort of French Youth Hostel organisation which offer very cheap all in hols. We have 2 here, and I'm sure there are others all over the French Alps. A quick google should sort you out. Nothing to be done about liftpass prices of course!

Happy hunting.

Elizabeth B, if you are prepared to work your passage, you might be able to get a free fortnight with Oak Hall ...

Elizabeth B, The UCPA are quite good, reasonably priced. Their prices include kit hire and instruction. If you have your own kit and do not want lessons (altho the company might be nice if traveling alone) the hostels might be nice (lots of hostels in Chamonix and Argentiere - like the Chamoniard Volant)

We've been looking for a relatively budget trip and at the moment La Plagne seems to be pretty cheap.
