Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just back (W/E 30/11/14) from Verbier and it was...spring snow

Had to go to Cervinia on Friday (as the Verbier opening had been moved a week) where the conditions were excellent with 70mm of new snow on the pistes which all seemed to have a good base... and falling snow.

Verbier by contrast over the weekend, brown and slushy and too warm to make snow, gonna be a late one in Switzerland

again? Much of the northern French alps had perfectly OK snow much of last season, though it wasn't an epic season. Don't know about other areas.

you'll certainly hear me complaining. wink I shall also be happy if the snow is not so slushy as it was in Arabba last year; everything was dripping and there were rivers running down the streets. Very, very, soggy snow.

@PaulC1984, oh my goodness yes. The temperature in Arabba was barely freezing - very heavy snow. Not only too much snow, but the wrong sort. Evil or Very Mad

@pam w, Oh god I wasn't aware of that - when I read too much snow I assumed it was cold and fluffy. How bloody awful!! Well lets hope we make up for it this year with a drink or 3! Happy

@PaulC1984, when all the lifts are closed (and hiking up without them is prohibited) it's surprising how little one bothers about the nature of the snowpack. wink Laughing

Actually, the heaviest snowfalls are often in comparatively mild conditions - when it gets really cold we usually have those anticyclone style conditions with clear skies and a temperature inversion. And no snow for weeks and weeks, sometimes. I do like the sun, though.
