Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Maurienne valley resorts; suggestions for day visits.

The OH and I will be skiing the changeover day in one of the resorts lower than Val Cenis, on the way home in Jan this year. So far, we have visited Aussois and Valloire, and Bonneval at the top. Our preference is for quieter places, Bonneval having been our favourite by far; high, empty, and unpisted blacks. Aussois was also good, but crowded with day visitors from Italy. Valloire was good, but bigger and busier. I appreciate that if visibility is poor, somewhere like La Norma in the trees would be good, but where else should we consider? We just need a reasonable lunch, no queues, and a bit of freeride or between pistes. Obviously, the closer to Val Cenis it is, the more time we get. Thanks Very Happy

Les Karellis without a doubt.

Alternatively, look at the map here:

Or wade through some of my TRs starting here:

We're off to St Michele at New Year. Very Happy

@cstreat,
Valfrejus is pretty straightforward from Val Cenis and on my visit also on a day trip from Val Cenis very enjoyable. A bit of variety above and below tree line and scenically attractive though the resort itself is no beauty.
Having only been on a day trip I can't give much detail and have no idea how busy it will be but I would certainly return.

Les Karellis; that slipped under the radar on previous visits. Thanks. I guess we have avoided the more modern places previously, despite the fact we just go to ski, not walk around town. I`ll look at both in greater detail.

Ha, I did read your TR@altis, last year, and enjoyed it very much; I`ve just got a terrible memory. It`s never nice when your OH is taken from behind , snarf snarf! Pardon me Twisted Evil

You're lucky, just this week a trip report from Maurienne was posted on alpinforum
http://alpinforum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=47

From 7 resorts visited, Les Karellis was the favourite.

@Onnem, I would have been even luckier if I had paid attention in German classes all those years ago ! Nice pics though.
