Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Gap between binding and ski

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi. My first post on here.

I have just received a new set of skis and there appears to be a good 2mm gap between the heel side of the binding and the ski. Is this normal as I have never seen this before. I have a picture below.

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

It's fairly common but not a good job. I would take them back and get them to sort it out. I think it's called volcanoing where the ski gets raised up slightly due to the drilling.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Can't open your link but is it a Marker Royal Family binding by any chance?

Heel needs removing & the top sheet dressing down any volcano'ing with a chisel. A little top sheet 'eruption' can come from the drilling but it's mostly from overzealous insertion of the self-tapping mounting screws, usually with a power driver.

If it is a Royal Family binding then you also need to remove the three little plastic prongs from the inside each of the base plate holes that are now sticking down below the underside of the plate adding to the problem.

Then re-glue (waterproof/flexible PVA) & re-insert the screws with a no.3 pozidriver by hand only, firm but not overtight (4.5NM if you want to get fancy).

5 min DIY job.

Thanks for the reply guys.

Sorry link should work now. Yes they are marker griffon bindings. When I shine a torch through it does look like the top sheet has erupted. In touch with the shop at the moment.

You'll need to Register first of course.

The other thing with the Royal Family heel plates is that they're slightly curved down at the ends which artificially exaggerates any gap in the middle so what you're looking for is for the plate to be flat on the ski at the hole locations.
