Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Up to 2m of snow fallen in the Alps!

I've just had a email in from a tour operator:

"With a bumper start to the early ski season across the Alps, at XXXXXXXX we’re looking forward to a winter season to remember. With plenty of snow already; along with some beautiful bluebird days and an almost tangible buzz in the air, it's the ideal time to get a group of friends together and head out to the slopes.
Up to two metres of the white fluffy stuff has already fallen in resorts across Europe since the start of the month"

Anybody like to tell me where has had 2m of snow? Most if not all webcams I look at are green!

" up to" is a very useful phrase don't you think? If you twist it to mean "no more than"

Perhaps they were on about candy floss, cocaine or grandads pubes rather than snow when they refereed to white fluffy stuff - either that of they were measuring the 2m horizontally rather than vertically! Toofy Grin

Perhaps their definition of 'Europe' is a bit wider than ours - so they can include Buffalo rolling eyes

South west. Pretty much everywhere in that region above 2000m or so. It was a pretty big deal on all the snow forecasting/reporting sites a week or so ago as there were several MASSIVE storms!

shock, horror, tour operator exaggerates snow conditions....
Its not the first time, best just to take it with a pinch of salt.
A few resorts have had over a metre, but like @davidof, says, a lot of it has melted.

In central southern Switzerland they have up to 3m at 2000m

On the Swiss French boarder where I went walking a couple of days ago, at 2000m there was nothing except brown pow for mountain bikers!

2 metres fallen doesn't equal 2 metres sitting on the ground compressing under its own weight.

And 'up to 2 meters' actually means 'less than 2 meters'. Commonly found in marketing phrases everywhere.

Yes but add in phrases like "Bumper start" and "with plenty of snow already" that is realy pushing marketing spin on what is currently very poor conditions!

There's MASSES of snow in the Alps. But it's concentrated on the southern side. Austria, Switzerland and NW France received 1 dump which was then erased by weeks of foehn.

I created a thread dedicated to the 2014-2015 season dumps for southern alps

There really isn't any shortage of snow in Cervinia

Gressoney is doing pretty well I would say

And the Canalone slope in Madesimo is in good shape

I was in the Canaries last week and there was snow on the top of the mountain in La Palma (at 2400m) and also lots of snow visible in the distant horizon on the mountain atop Tenerife. No ski lifts though Sad

Here's the webcams from Isola 2000 - they are going to receive another 40-90 cm's - snowline on 2200 is relatively high with clouds rolling in from Tunisia.
