Only 4 days to go. Got to get used to the crippling pain, although they actually seem remarkably comfortable and I can't wait.

They've been on and off for the last couple of weeks, and they are going to be getting worn more and more over then next few weeks before heading out, expecially as i'll have new footbeds to get used to.

s'funny coz we all screw our boots as tight as they go, expect to get maximum pain to be sure they are tight enuff for skiing but all the "good advice" suggests the opposite i.e pain bad boots not too tight. Gave my boots an airing on the dry slope last weekend, can't wait for Jan 29th. Thinking of treating myself to some custom footbeds - are they worth it?

halfhand, There have been several posts on this issue recently and the general concensus is that they are a must.
You will just have to decide if you want / need to go for a full biometric analysis and fit from someone like profeet or go for a less expensive option such as the custom conform'able footbeds sold at most retailers.
Your boots should remain comfortable enough for you to complete whatever you want to do in them. Race boots will be fine for a short time, but may cause discomfort if you try and ski in them all day. Whereas leisure boots will be comfortable enough to wear 24/7 but will not offer the performance of a boot closer to race spec. It's a trade off between comfort and performance.
I've personally never had any major problems with my boot fit, although I do ensure that I wear them for a chunk of time before each winter to allow them to adjust to the changes in muscle mass and shape that inevitably occurs between each season.

After years of uncomfortable hire boots (I've got funny shaped feet anyway!), five years ago I had 'racing' fit boots custom fitted in Zermatt. From day one they were excruciating - I had to undo them after every run as my toes cramped all the time - and I only skiied in them for two weeks before giving up. Since then I have taken them to Snow & Rock and others, who all claim they are the right size. I went back to hire boots.
Last year I broke my ankle skiing and so last Friday I bit the bullet and went and had new boots fitted at Profeet. Although the colour (electric blue) is eye-catching to say the least, they are really comfortable. I took one size bigger than they wanted me to take as the first lot were just as bad as my original boots. They completely moulded the lining around my lumpy ankle - I have some serious metalwork in it - and other lumps and bumps on my feet. They always want you to have a custom footbed.
I'm resigned never to be a racer but at least (hopefully) I'll be able to ski all day.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Haven't got them on right now, I left them at the bar in the resort last night...

It's like rock climbing shoes - the ones I wear for steep limestone kill me after 20 minutes, yet my all day shoes for long routes have been discontinued by the manufacturer (Asolo). What do I do now?
