Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Scrap Freedom SL & Salomon Guardian 16 binding

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
HI all,

Anyone using Scarpa Freedom SL with Salomon Guardian 16 (or Atomic Tracker)? With "Tech binding sole" - the "Vibram Mountain plus"?

Does it work at all?

Thanks.

Best,
Vasja

It may not be much help, but I converted my Dynafit One boots to an alpine sole for the tracker binding. Works fine for longer tours.

@vasja, this seasons (14/15) Guardian has sufficient toe height adjustment to fit a full spec AT boot but the previous version won't accept the thicker sole. You could grind a bit off the sole however the previous version had a fixed AFD so you're unlikely to get a smooth consistent lateral release. The 14/15 version, in addition to the additional toe height adjustment, also has a sliding AFD to ensure a smooth release & which is required to achieve din certification with an AT boot.

I'm pretty certain you could jam the boot in there; the Freedom has a flat sole, right? I wouldn't necessarily place any bets on having it release cleanly in a fall. Maybe you could sand down the soles a bit, but it seems a bit strange to use a boot that can take alpine-din compatible soles and then use the wrong soles with it, especially as the guardian is a touring binding!

I have to admit, I have just bought my second Tracker 16 binding for some new fat skis, at £186 it's a bit of a bargain and after testing it so extensively last year I have really grown to love it's stability and the solid way you can really drive the ski. OK, I've only toured half days on it but even though it is a little heavy I just figure it's keeping me fit Toofy Grin

Ha, all, thanks...
I already have Guardian 16 (2013) on one pair of skies and now I'm looking to upgrade to Freedom and it looks like I'll change for new version of the binding... I've done my ACL last year and don't want to risk...
