Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mayrhofen to Gerlos - road toll?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am going to Mayrhofen for 9 days before xmas. I'll have a car and I'd like to see a bit more of the Zillertal slopes, so I was thinking about popping over to Gerlos area for a day or two. I drove that road some 10 years ago during the summer and I can recollect that there was a toll to be paid at some point. Is this going to be the case here too? Or will it be included in the price of the Zillertal skipass? Anybody has any first-hand experience?

I drove up to Gerlos from Mayrhofen a couple of times the Christmas before last. No tolls.

 Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The toll is the other side of Gerlos (as you get to Krimml) so you'll be fine.

The Zillertal lift pass covers transport around the various areas, including the train. It may be you want to drive but it's a bit less of a fuss and a really nice valley to travel along by train. The train doesn't go to Gerlos, you'd need a bus for that but it does go to Zell am Ziller and Kaltenbach. You can also travel up the valley to Lanersbach and Hintertux by bus.

Looking at these wiggles, it's anyone's guess.

@jbob
Yeah, difficult to spot a toll-booth on these graphs;)

You could also ski from Zell am Ziller to Gerlos (and Königsleiten), which would save you driving up (and down) the hill.

Driving up is quickest way there, it's a bit of a slog there and back on skis.

Bus is fine, but the return times aren't great. From memory 3.15 or 5.30, one's a bit early and the other a bit late. But if it's snowing hard I'd take the bus.

However you travel there it's well worth the effort. Loads to go at and we drove up there in February, definitely no tolls.

Worthwhile driving all the way through to Koenigsleiten as it's the hardest place to get decent ski time if you ski across from Zell Am Ziller

 And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I want to get there on skis from Zell am Ziller once, just for the adventure. But as you say, it is a bit far out, so I'd like to give it another full day by getting there by car first. Good to know I'll be paying for petrol only.
