Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi we have a group of 2 adults and 4 kids looking for ski hire. We arrive very late on the 27th of December and have lessons booked for the morning of 28th. What I'm wondering is are the ski shops open early in the morning and can anyone recommend one? I've been online, but some seem to only open at 830am... too late to get all the kids kitted out and up the mountain. Has anyone used ski delivery to their apartment.
Also we are going self catering and are looking for a supermarket to stock up on stuff.. anywhere close b that won't rip us off?
First time to Samoens and looking forward to it so any tips appreciated!

@scotty75, a chum who lives there generally uses SkiLoc-JaySports. They have a rental shop at Samoens 1600 just opposite the Vercland bubble summit and a very short walk from the top of the Grand Massif express. So you can rent and store your kit up there, if you like. Also would make your first morning easier.

!! MAKE SURE YOU RESERVE WELL IN ADVANCE - IT IS THE BUSIEST WEEK OF THE YEAR !!

Try these. Used them a few times and they are opposite the GM Express. As you drive in to Samoens (over the bridge) straight across roundabout and they are on the right. Parking is behind the building so turn right at roundabout and left into car park opposite GME. Not sure what time they open but I expect it will be around 0800, they are open fairly late too I think.

If you drive out of Samoens towards Taninges (do not re cross the bridge) there is a supermarket about 3/4 mile out of town, with fuel too. Think it is Carrefour.

Roland gay are pretty good and also have a a shop at 1600 and a store by the top of the GME next to Lou Caboens Restaurant. Try them via http://www.skiset.co.uk. Planet Glisse are also good

It may depend on where you are staying There are plenty of shops and, unless you want to store at the top which will limit your option of going up at Morillon for example, convenience will be a factor. As far as I know most open at 08.00.
Definitely book in advance. Basil is correct re. Carrefour

I agree Roland Gay very good and they also have lockers at 1600 so you can leave skis/ boots on the slopes . Really useful especially with children.
Carrefour is good if you have a car but there are smaller supermarkets in the village as well as a great butchers, fantastic patisserie. You will love the village and the skiing

Carrefour fuel is very cheap. But you can buy all the food you need in the village.

I can't help on ski shops but can offer the following advice on supermarkets:
There is a large Carrefour in Cluses we usually use and would be worth going to if you want a large supermarket with non food items aswell. However I find it takes ages to go round all the aisles at the Cluses Carrefour and the smaller Carrefour near Samoens mentioned above is probably more than adequate for a week's shopping.
If you need the odd extra item during the week I'd recommend the Sherpa in Samoens - it is a small corner shop size but the people running it are very friendly.
We have generally found Samoens a friendly place and the village has a better range of shops than your average ski resort. There are various specialist shops. Eg. wine shop, sweet shop, book shop, plenty of places selling saucisson/ etc.
