Hi
Looking at a week as above late Jan. Fancy Vail or aspen, but would like somewhere with a kids club for our 6 yr old, ski in/out. Any suggestions welcome?

If late Jan, and by North America you also include Canada I would say Whistler as that is pretty ski in ski out and when I was last there 6 year olds got a free lift pass

Snowmass would suit you. It is a fair trek to get there though.

Keystone gets a good reputation for families. They do a kids ski free deal. Seems to be lots going on for them too.

Willy.................. Forget Vail. Seriously. You're better off as has been intelligently suggested with Snowmass, which, if you can secure a condo on the mountain IS ski-in/ski-out, to a lesser extent there are accomodations at their base and they have all manner of ski school/club für die Jugend. Aspen is not a ski-in/ski-out facility but Ajax Mountain (Aspen) is just down the road from Snowmass if you wanted to give it a shot as the mountain itself is outstanding with all the Aspen accoutrement. If you go there do not overlook Buttermilk but avoid Highlands (it's so much off camber).
I can and will also put in a v. good word and more for Keystone (correctomundo JonKGray78) which is self contained at their base and heavily oriented toward family, again with a great kids program. If you and the family also like to skate Keystone's lake is in a world of its own! Check it out via Google search. Kids love to skate...............
Assuming you are in England, BA have non stops from LHR to DEN that arrive in Denver just after 3:00 p.m. By the time one finally got their luggage they would be on the road around 4:00 p.m. or so with Keystone a solid 90 minutes away by car or van under normal driving conditions (caveat on that!)........ Aspen is at least a four hour EFFORT (again, under normal driving conditions), so if Snowmass is your choice, unless you are a glutton for punishment change planes and connect with a flight into Aspen and take it from there either by car, better yet van - cab. Shuttles are adequate around the greater Aspen region from early a.m. to late at night.
CARDWEG thankfully also mentioned the East, be same in Vermont or perhaps another adjacent state. While not big in the ski-in/ski-out application, several Eastern American resorts are lovely, but a bit of a hike to get to whether flying into NYC or Boston. Then there is Canada and my Eastern Canadian/Canadien fave is Tremblant, one plus hour north of Montreal and wonderful to put it mildly. It's the region, the terrain and the whole French influence that cannot be denied. While not pure ski-in/ski-out, Tremblant hotels are principally pooled right at the very bottom of the mountain and the Canadians love their children................. Western Canadian spots are nice but a definite hike to put it mildly save for Whistler.

Another Vote for Whistler. Kids school is brilliant and all day. Direct flights (from London) with a reasonable transfer at the other end. Better currency conversion too at the moment.
Walk everywhere in a traffic free town.

As an alternative to Whistler, Big White is superb for families with kids and is proper ski in/out with the village built on the hill. Kids centre is brilliant and perfect for a 6 year old. Our 4 year old loved it last season and her skiing came on in leaps and bounds.
Downside is that you may find it expensive to get there as you will need a short (but quite expensive) internal flight from Vancouver. Keeps the International crowds well away though!

Whistler has a great kids ski program. Don't need to worry about a vehicle once there either. Steamboat is decent too. But I thnk for a week, it might get a bit dull.

If you are going to Big White fly in to Calgary and fly on from there to Kelowna its quicker and there are more flights.
If you fly to Kelowna have a look at Silver Star and Sun Peaks bothe great family resorts mostly ski in /ski out. They have great kids ski school, and other activities for kids.

Panorama in Canada? All of the upper village is effectively ski in/out and, although our kids are older now, the ski school there provided the best tuition that our kids ever had.

Northstar@Tahoe is great for kids, and the village is right at the bottom of the gondola. It's not as cold as Colorado or most of the Canadian resorts.

@Willyroyals, I spent much of last season at Copper mountain and thought it a great hill. Small enough not to get lost in and still keep a good atmosphere and big enough to keep you busy for more than a week.
