Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

This link describes the Morzine snow as "velvet". Sounds wonderful but does anyone out there know what it means?

Red Leon, I know this doesn't answer your question but on the alp d huez site the same snow condition is described ( its the same layout for the slope info infact ).

At the bottom of their page you can press the link that says Snow lexique ad it gives you a description of all the info they put on the conditions page .

All info other than VELVET Mad

If we mean "is it silk", then yes, the snow which falls on Morzine is spun by high-altitude white moths. Unfailingly outstanding snow, as guaranteed by the Morzine tourist office.

Perhaps they're just trying to give the impression that they're 'too classy for Corduroy'?

People tell me that if you really want to respect an overnight pisteur you ski in white corduroy ski pants on their perfectly-groomed corduroy piste.

Pass it on.

Clearly velvet is recently fallen snow that hasn't been groomed into cords. Obvious really.

David Murdoch, I'll second that - about 3-10 cms of pow on a groomed piste definitely feels like velvet under the feet - ooooohhhhhhhh

Yes, and it would be even more sensual if naked human feet could luxuriate in this experience, like a chamois or tourist office snow reporter (super-human in their appreciation of snow conditions).
