Poster: A snowHead

Hi, Just came back from a few wonderful days skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier - Zell am See/Kaprun staying in Zell. I picked up the 2014/15 pistenplan Piste Map and noticed they had added Piste 38 and freeride piste from the top of the Zell am See Sonnengratbahn down to Viehhofen / Saalbach. Announcing a new 4km slope that takes you to a bus stop in Viehhofen which you then return to Zell am See or take a ski bus up into the Saalbach ski area. Presumably this is to establish this old route again to support the application to build a new lift up from Viehhofen to Zell am See next summer?

Old news - see page 4 of this very long thread > http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=30480
Next summer's project is to build the lifts and pistes to link Saalbach to Fieberbrunn, opening in time for the 2015-16 season.
Note that anyone skiing from Zell am See to Viehhofen and then catching the short shuttle to Schonleiten/Saalbach needs a Ski Alpin lift ticket rather than the Zell/Kaprun ticket in order to access the Saalbach lift system. It only costs a few Euro more, but only on the original ticket purchase, not as an upgrade.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks, I had sort of been following this very lengthy discussion hadn't pick this up, sorry. I posted because it was actually on the official map I'd picked up and I was all excited!
Thanks for the tip about the lift passes...
I was in Fieberbrunn last week and chatting to the tourist office they confirmed the link to Hinterglemm Saalbach will start next spring (2015).

Im heading to Zell in Jan, would this be a better option to join the Saalbach area, or just get the post bus from Zell town? Are there local Saalbach buses which go out as far as Viehhofen, or just the hourly Postbus to/from Zell?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Martin., I don't think that Zell piste 38 has been open for a few years, so who knows what it will be like.
There is a ski bus that runs every 20 mins from Viehhofen to the Schonleiten gondola just outside Saalbach. To get back to Zell, you can ski down to Viehhofen from the top of the Polten lift if Saalbach piste 68 is open; otherwise you need to ski/ride down to the bottom of Schonleiten. From either, you then get the Postbus back to Zell am See.
