Guys do any of you know if its normal not to be able to book the main slope until lunchtime on a Sunday? I was hoping to go 8-10am to get fresh trax and hopefully be a little quieter. But seems I was very wrong.

You are getting into the busier time of year, so probably the earlier sessions are already fully booked. If you are able to go during the week, the Earlybird session 7am-9am on a Tuesday is less busy, although still popular.

I was thinking about going along tomorrow morning but will give it a miss now - cheers for the heads up. I've never had any problem going at 8am on a Sunday in Jan or Feb, and I just assumed November would be quieter. Or am I being a bit naive!

@Iski, a) there are very few of them and b) they keep getting moved or cancelled.

@chrisrawles, looks like there are still 1 hr slots available from 8am, just not any 2 hr slots

Does anyone know if Hemel have a limit to how many people they let on the slope at any one time? I assume they have to for Health and Safety.

"We always recommend that you pre-book Lift Passes to make sure there's space on the slope" implies yes, there's a limit. It was rammed yesterday morning, quieter in the afternoon.

The reason for wanting to go in the AM was to get some fresh trax and not have to follow the ruts that get carved out.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Yes, hence them turning people away at 0900 yesterday. It did mean that the slope never got ridiculously busy (not like MK used to get).

MK put me off last time I went du to it being silly busy and having people on the main slope that clearly should not have been on it.

You know it makes sense.

I found Hemel worse for people who shouldn't have been on the main slops than MK. We had to put a little kid on the drag lift yesterday who had no idea and I get the impression his snowboarder dad was 'teaching' him to ski. They are a lot tougher on unofficial parent teaching kid/ boyfriend teaching girlfriend at MK. Snow is better at Hemel though so swings and roundabouts.

Me and the other half are going to try the Tuesday evening session 6-10pm. Anyone go on a regular basis to this? Is the slope normally cut up pretty bad by then?

@chrisrawles, I go regularly at this time and will be there tomorrow. It's usually not too bad but does depend what they've had on during the day. It was noticably worse half term week. I find it better on a Tuesday evening than on a Saturday afternoon. It's worth getting there for 6 if you can - usually pretty quiet between 6 and 7 but then gets a bit busier.

Cheers for the heads up. I work in Cambridge and don't get back to Royston until 6ish, So will probably be there around 7 - 7.30
Hopefully they wont have any race training going on during the day as i find this creates a nice rut all the way down which is a pain in you want to work on a particular technique.

Did anyone go last night to Hemel? i was surprised how busy it was even for a Tuesday night. I can only imagine the weekends will get worse with more lessons and more people finding their snow legs again for the season. Still a good crack tho.

@chrisrawles, it was busier than I expected last night. When I arrived just after 6 a race club was packing up. I was only on the main slope till 7:30 and it wasn't too bad then but it did get very busy later. I'm told it's quiet and smooth first thing on a Sunday morning still, but you need to be on slope for 8.

We got there just after 7 and it was busy, we went to get a drink to let things settle but it didn't really get any better. i like the idea of the Sunday morning session but after last weeks experience of not being able to book the ticket (maybe i left it too late) it put me off slightly.
Anyway we go way in a few weeks so will just hold on now.

Last night (Tuesday) was busyier than it has been for a while. I'm guessing winter is coming.
