Avago, getting to Munich may be slower than you anticipate due to major long term roadworks along the A3 around Würzburg as well along the A9 and A7. The only long term roadworks I know of currently on the outer ring road (A99) around Munich is in the bit from the junction with the A9 and the B471 exit for Ismaning/Aschheim. Some of these road works may well be mothballed for the winter by the end of this month, so it may be worth checking the maps at the beginning of December to see which ones that still have speed limits imposed.
You also have to factor in quite a lot of European traffic heading towards the Alps - the Scandinavians and the Dutch will be joined at various points along the way by traffic from every Bundesland apart from Bavaria. The schools finish at around 10.00am (12.00 midday at the latest) on the last day of term and those going away for the Christmas period may also leave early. Due to the way the Christmas and New Year's national bank holidays fall this year you can get 2 weeks off for the cost of only 6 days. Those in predominantly catholic areas can get nearly 2.5 weeks off this year, which is exactly what I'm doing

We flew into Munich last year on the Friday before Christmas and we made it to our Destination in Lofer two hours later. We left Munich airport around 12pm. We actually brought our holiday forward by a day to avoid the Saturday exodus to the Alps, doing the same this year.

@Avago, you can see how it is doing on the TomTom Live traffic site - http://livetraffic.tomtom.com/ I have some other more detailed roadworks sites but you need to understand German to get the best out of them!
