Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Resorts cost survey

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Apologies if this has already been posted but i just came across this article comparing various different costs between different ski resorts:-

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/holidays/article-2820242/The-cheapest-ski-resorts-revealed-Bulgaria-tops-list-bargain-breaks-Italy-s-best-cut-price-luxury.html

There are so many holes in that matrix i don't know where to start - but who is going to spend £600+ on 5 days private tuition but then only drink 1 glass of wine and 1 beer over the course of the week - it just makes in-resort costs for a week unrealistic whether you're minted or not.

The frustrating thing with these kind of random surveys is that anyone stumbling on that article who has never skied before but was considering it could be put right off or they could be in for a right shock too by looking at some of the on mountain lunch prices.

I can't believe someone's being paid to put such a load of tosh together - rant over now i'm out of Daily Mail owned site reader mode. Laughing

Well, what a shocker that is. Buy that man a beer.

On second thoughts doesn't he just mean "it's cheap". Value for money is an elusive and subjective thing to identify. If I am hiring poor quality kit, spending longer on an antiquated lift system and skiing down brown patch pistes am I going to be happy it cost me £500 less Puzzled

Funnily enough, the Evasion Mont Blanc ski pass (that Megeve is a part of) IS one of the cheaper ones. Mountain restaurants on the Megeve side though... ouch> Best going over St Gervais side for lunch

@Layne, whilst i agree with you entirely - for a complete beginner or a 2nd/3rd week skier some of those things you mention aren't quite so important - i went to borovets back in 1998 on my 2nd ski holiday and had a fantastic time for a bargain price - would i go back now as an experienced skier i very much doubt it for the reasons you put together with limited area size but i'd reccomend it to someone on a budget that's never skied before.

@Richard_Sideways, seeing as the usual price for a snickers bar in most french mountain restaurants/snack bars is 3 euros you can safely say that some of those costs haven't been very well researched or explained.

@Atomic_Mick, I think you can safely say that each line item was simply the first one that came to hand after a quick and rough googling.

What a complete load of chod! At least try to make things realistic - who has 5 or 6 days of private lessons? And the price of the boot hire? They gold lined or something? And one glass of vino? Erm, that's me. I'm off to Norway and can't afford more than a glass.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

The lift prices are surely wrong? Lech and Zurrs are on the same ski pass and a beer for under 5 euros? Most of the prices seem to be way off.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much
