Hi, I'm off to the sella for the fifth time and have skied Cortina a couple of times but my partner and some of the kids havent skied Cortina. Is it possible to ski from Corvarra to Cortina and back or is it taxis/bus ?

It will be an expensive trip by taxi, £55 each way. There is a bus £6 but only runs every 3 hours. You could ski to Armentarola & take the taxi coonection to 5Torri 6 euros each & catch the ski bus to Cortina - you can get off half way and ski the rest. On the way back you can take the cable car from Langazoi & ski the hidden valley back to Armentarola & hence to Covara. It will be a tight schedule. Best a combination of the above. If you are with a TO they often put on a day trip to Cortina which is the cheapest option if you don't have a car.

I drove from Corvara to Cortina in August (to get my bike fixed at a Cannondale dealership) and it was a fair distance. Even at 7:30 in the morning (i.e. practically zero traffic) and good roads (August) it was the best part of 45 minutes each way.

We stay every year in Arabba and wanted to try Cortina this year. The ski school in Arabba gave us our favourite instructor for the day who drove us to Cortina in a minibus. We paid about Euro 200 for five of us and it was a great value day out, with some instruction thrown in if we wanted it (and lots of fast piste skiing too). You could see if the ski school in Corvara could offer something similar. Love the Dolomites - 7th visit next February.

i'm sure there was post on here last year (or the year before) detailing how to ski to Cortina from the Alta Badia (only 5 TORRI area tho') and the route to take back. I'll see if i can find it.....

thanks for the responses. It sounds like its not skiing as I've got two fo the kids with me on snowboards. The taxi doesnt sound bad at £55 as I think they'll enjoy Cortina

@ipken, I've not done it myself but it looks like there's a bus from Falzarego to Cortina in the Winter, although two buses may be a pain and worth paying the 55 Euros for convenience. I also think you will need to decide whether you want to walk round Cortina itself in addition to skiing there as it may influence where you want to get dropped off in Cortina etc.
I have been on a private day trip to Cortina and loved it. It was a snowy good with loads of powder and for some reason the Italians in Cortina tend to only come out on sunny days, so the pistes were literally empty. It's much more Italian in character than Corvara btw.
