That is why it looks so busy down at Montalbert. Everywhere else is poodles and mist.
See you on Sunday La Plagne!

@Chris Bish, you're in for a wonderful time.
Looks like winter has properly arrived.
La Plagne now looking majestic. Completely transformed from just a week ago.
So much snow in the car park its difficult to differentiate cars from mounds of snow.
It was gloriously sunny this morning, and knee-deep soft fluffy snow everywhere.
Now snowing heavily again - local knowledge suggests another 20cm tonight.
Feel sorry for those leaving today, but you lot coming out this weekend: you are in for a wonderful time.

Chris Bish, just get yourself to the trees. Lots in La Plagne: Monatalbert, Montchavin/Les Coches, not forgetting just over the Vanoise the superb runs above Peisey.
Of course, for Montchavin/Les Coches and over the Vanoise the problem is getting there, but you can take the bus round to Bellecote, and then there is only the run down to the tow-rope and the top of Dos Rond

just stopped snowing, but has been snowing on-and-off all night.
Dull light, but should be lovely skiing.
Edit, 2 minutes later: started snowing again!

Comfortably installed at Graciosa (again). Amazing amounts of fluffy new snow. Wish I was good enough to ski powder!
No complaints about snow quantity then!

Brilliant day here at La Plagne. Managed to get Bev down to Montalbert in superb snow conditions. Plenty of sunshine and lots of squeaky new snow. Best day for years. Cold but that keeps the snow nice.

@Chris Bish, glad you had a good day.
Lovely fluffy stuff almost everywhere. We played about a bit on Champagny side, then went up to Roche de Mio and stayed high above Inversins, continuing on down to Les Bauches. Then up to top of Arpette and round the back to Les Coches (usually know as Mont St Jaques). Very few people on any of the runs. And the weather was wonderfully kind: mostly sunny periods and so good light.
Still lots of untracked deep snow. Should be a wonderful week in store.

Little bit more snow overnight. Sunny morning with some high cloud. Mont Blanc has its hat on. Champagny side today, I guess. I wonder if the glacier will open.

It is all setting up nicely for our arrival on Sunday. There seems to be differing views on how much more snow is going to fall in the coming days with Bergfex forecasting 8-15 cm but meteoexploration.com showing 0cm.

Truly glorious day today. So much deep and squeaky snow that the odd patch of base comes as a real surprise. Sunny all day and light winds. Cold, but that keeps the snow crispy. Champagny side quite superb. Lovely conditions.

I'm due to arrive on Sunday (staying in Belle Plagne). Beginning to look like the blocking high is going to deliver settled weather with not a hint of any fresh falls to keep the snow in good nick. I'm hoping that the 1.7m that fell over the last week will be sufficient. Temperatures lower down are set to be above freezing so there may be some thaw/freeze going on.

Gaza - a 9 day forecast like that is nothing but fantasy! I'd have a cursory check on Saturday before you go, it might give you a 'flavour' of what to expect but not much more than that!!!
(Incidentally we're flying out to Belle Plagne on Saturday afternoon!)

Gently snowing this morning - nearly 1cm when i went out for bread - and still snowing.
Interestingly, the only site that forecast snow this early in the morning was Gaza's meteoexploration site. Even Meteoblue got it wrong.

Another day of high cloud and some sunshine. A bit more cloud than yesterday. I actually found a few patches of hard-pack late on yesterday, but piste conditions are superb still.
Most forecasts suggesting some snow coming up from the south later on tonight. Very polite of it to snow at night.

Good day today but cloud in the valley meant you had to go high. Now snowing lightly with thick mist. Finished a bit early. Best sun on higher slopes.

It's been snowing in Champagny since about 6pm so it looks promising for tomorrow.
It was the World Cup opening ceremony in the centre of Champagny en Vanoise this evening, they are holding the ice climbing World cup at the ice tower in Champagny le Haut tomorrow and on Saturday.
It has a very international feel with teams from as far afield as Iran, South Korea, Canada and the USA. Britain and Ireland are represented as well as France, Holland and what seemed like most of Russia.
For anybody interested you can see more details here - http://www.iceworldcup.fr/en/

According to the lights on the board by the Biolin lift, the glacier was open today. Piste conditions still excellent. The sun shone this afternoon and the snow was delightful. Getting a bit scraped down to Les Coches, but I expect that will soon be put right. Anyonecoming out for piste skiing next week will be fine. We have had a glorious week for snow and sunshine.
(and another day tomorrow.)

Yes, chocksaway, heard about this from a local, and knew one had been taken to hospital.
Very sad.
it is the risk you take when trying such a run.

We had an awesome day today and had the great pleasure of skiing with Jonpim, and Jean who introduced us to Mont de la Guerre. Liz was delighted to ski 72km on her 72nd birthday. Beautiful weather and piste conditions still perfect. We have had a brilliant week.

@Jonpim, Do you know who it was or where they are from?
How are you and Jean by the way?
How much longer are you out for?
I didn't realise it was you until I saw Jean's jacket in the trees.
Hope your trip to Valmorel went well.

@chocksaway, @genepi, Very sad to hear that, just back from a great week where our kids had a great time with Oxygene.
Discussing snow conditions seems somewhat less meaningful this morning. Plenty snow fell last weekend, since then there has been only a little falling despite some of the websites varying promises. Plenty of snow on piste however all the way down (except for the bottom 400m of Mont de la Guerre) but off piste is well tracked (the bits we could see anyway).
