Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Parking in Tignes

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Just thinking about booking parking in le lavachet for january trip but wonder what alternatives are using free parking.

indoor has its advantages, but there seems to be free outdoor parking at valclaret, ( although seen security on there stopping cars using it) and also at tignes 1800 and les brev,

has anyone experience of using these and can advise on how well this worked in terms of dropping car off, getting to and from it to resort, access etc

not sure about wanting to dig it out after snowfall!!!!

what does the panel think?

Lots of info from the altis link above. In summary:

- NO free parking at Val Claret during the main winter season - Though drop off/pick up of luggage is generally allowed outside accommodation (depending on how the Gendarmes are feeling on the particular day you arrive).
- 2 hrs free parking is, however, permitted in the main Val Claret outdoor car park. That applies all winter. Useful for drop off/pick up of luggage.

Free car parks are available as follows:
- Tignes les Boisses (now re-badged as Tignes 1800). Downhill behind the new apartment development. The uphill on the way out can be tricky after snow - but we've never been stuck, even after digging the car out. Car park is a reasonable size and we've always found a space.
- Tignes les Brevieres. Massive car park, next to the gondola station. Generally very easy access and egress.

You can easily access the slopes by gondola from both car parks - but on a cautionary note, we couldn't find anywher in Tignes 1800 to buy a lift ticket last winter. The old ticket office has gone - swallowed up by the new apartment development. We had to buy tickets back up in Le Lac before we dropped the car at the free car park. Or, depending on timings, you could buy a ticket as you pass Les Brevieres before parking the car at Tignes 1800.

You can ski/board back to both free car parks as well - ie ski to within about 10 metres of the edge of the car parks. In terms of digging the car out....an occupational hazard unless you pay for indoor parking I'm afraid. On about 10 visits to Tignes in mid-winter we've only had two times where the car was totally buried but you do need to be prepared for that possibility. Reader's tip: If it has snowed in the week, you should never understimate the time needed to dig the car out wink . It's worth clearing any snow that has accumulated a day or two before you set off home, as well as making sure the car starts ok. Make sure you take a (packable) shovel! We once forgot - and managed by using a cardboard box that we'd packed groceries in Toofy Grin....

Depending on arrival/departure time, we will pay for a night in the Val Claret main car park - €15 vs about €75 for the week - before moving to the freebie parking.

thanks both, for the quick replies! Champion!

we have checked we thought last year and thought the lavachet underground park access level and exit level were well over 2m15, in fact 2m60!
checking with the parking people however they say that the access between entry level and exit level is 2m15!!! bizarre as we have seen transit etc in there which are well over 2m15......guess thats the french way for you!!

anyway the outdoor parking is not that inconvienient and saves the parking cost, so we will go with that...and then check again when we get there the access heights in the underground park!!!

Hi @Kaiatros, you've bumped an eight-year old thread; latest info is on the main Tignes Val d'Isere thread, summarised on page 1:

https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=161226#5053000

But the short answer to your question is that there isn't any.

@Kaiatros, take a look at Chocksaway's thread on Tignes in 'Snow Reports'. There's a full run down in there, but basically, 'no'.
