@K8T, of course - although there may not be too many skis the right size.

@admin, I've signed up and paid by bank transfer, but the Co-Op doesn't have a 'ref' field . PM or email me and I'll let you have the details so you can reconcile the payment and my booking!

I've decided recently that the Co-op bank is, ironically, the most un-cooperative bank I've ever dealt with.

Any chance of getting Black Diamond and some of the touring specialists like Dynafit and Trab to bring their latest models along? Cheers

That's a good idea - I've not seen Black Diamond for a while. I wonder who is repping them in the UK.

I spoke to Black Diamond this afternoon and they're enthusiastic to be there assuming they can get the demo kit here from Europe.
Hopefully we'll get a confirmation soon

Oooh, already have plans for that evening but could try to pop along for the first hour or two, just after a bit of info though about how it works. Is there a time limit on taking a pair of skis?
Also does anyone know if the place is open to the public at the same time or just Snowheads (I see the CFe website will still allow me to book on 22nd Nov @ 5pm)? CFe at peak times gets busy so you sometimes don't get many runs down - wondering if coming for an hour or two would be worthwhile..

@shazchip, we do limit people to testing each ski for 1hr. Even then, if it's a popular model there may be 10 people who would like to try it - obviously, we'd only be able to fit them all in to a 4hr test if they kept themselves to 20 mins each.
The point really is to try out and compare lots of skis - that's the unique opportunity here - rather than pick one you know you like and stick to it.
We do have the potential to take these places over exclusively to ourselves - after the amazing turn-out we had for the OktoberTest, Hemel snowCentre suggested we might do that next year - but I can't see us having the numbers to justify that in this case.
Word is that Saturday evenings aren't generally too busy anyway.
A couple of hours booked directly with CFe will cost £31. As snowHeads, we get 4hrs for £35. super/mega-snowHeads get the whole 4 for a mere £25! As they say, "You can barely get a beer for that in Courchevel"

I'm seriously interested in this. Is there a best source of info for ski information to try and dial down a number of skis to try? My friend got some Atomic Crimson Ti last year and loves them so I suspect i'd go for something like that though ideally not the same ski? Mostly we spend our time on piste but like to go and play off the side when the conditions allow and i'd like to be able to ski varying terrains.

I'm in. Hopefully they will turn all the lights on for us as the last 3 times I have been to chill factore over half the lights have been turned off making it dangerous in my opinion. It is hard to see definition on the slope. Its like when its going dark on holiday and you think its time to stop skiing before someone gets hurt. I have complained every time and got a different excuse/lie every time. last time I even demanded my money back and threatened to report them to to the environmental health. I was fobbed off with an email address to complain to and told if I wanted to report them I could, so I did. Trafford environmental health have passed my complaint to the Health and safety executive who set out the rules and regulations that chillfactore have to follow. They have told me that my complaint will be investigated and they will get back to me. I have checked the regulations and they are definitely breaking the rules set out by H&S executive and Snowsports England. So hopefully all the lights will be on, we will be able to see properly and no one will get hurt because the bean counters at chillfactor want to save some money. By the way I have estimated that by turning out half the lights they save £37000 per year.

Good job it's not in Yorkshire then; they'd issue you with an old miners helmet and save the other £37000 too.

@spartacus74, first you need to book/pay in advance as that's a condition of the deal we get.
Then, you need to add your real name, a mobile number and profile photo to your profile (User Facilities (top left) => Personal Profile) so we can make your Testers' card.
Then you turn up and we give you your card, slope pass and any other goodies we may have brought along.
Your card allows you to check skis out and in. Each snowHead is limited to an hour on each pair although, if the more popular skis were all out for an hour at a time, many would be disappointed. The idea, after all, is to take advantage of the opportunity to compare skis to each other rather than spend the whole session on something you already know you like.
As you check each pair of skis back in, we ask you for a simple estimation of how much 'fun' you had on a scale of 1 to 10. This helps those who tried a lot of skis to remember which they were most fond of.
The results are updated live and can be viewed in the SkiBase http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/skibase.php
There is always a link to the most recent test results.
Testers can subsequently leave comments against any of the skis they tested. (this has recently been added)
All the while this is happening, snowHeads hang around chatting about skis and skiing at the bottom of the slope, the top of the slope and in the bar, of course!
Afterwards, we tend to get a swift beer in the bar, as you do!

Some brand new top secret super narrow boards ( roughly 100mm plus tip, 80mm waist and 100mm plus tail ) they come with mounting for one boot ( designed for expert snowboarders ). They are even bringing two identical ones for each model so as you and a friend can test them at the same time

Logical place to meet would either be the Mount Blanc café or in the Sports bar that looks out over the main slope.
Not sure what time everyone wants to meet up but I would say being in the changing/equipment area at least 25min before the session starts ( you can normally get on the slope 5min before your start time ). So if people want a drink before hitting the slope that would be around 4pm in the bar or café unless admin has other plans ?
I will be there before 4pm anyway.

For those lucky Snowheads attending this little soiree, and who are coming from outside of the area, you may want to allow a little extra time for your journey. There are now roadworks underway affecting the M60 between Junction 8 near Sale and and Junction 20 (of the M62) near Rochdale. The slope is usually accessed by Junction 10 of the M60.
At this time of the year J10 can be rather busy anyway, as it is one of the main junctions for access to the Trafford centre. I expect Saturday afternoon and early evening travel will also be affected.
Covering this work, the Highways Agency has installed some 50 (fifty) average speed cameras covering both carriageways and slip roads between these junctions. That is, 17 miles of connected average speed cameras. with a blanket 50 mph limit in operation.
Take care and have great evening.

If you come off at junction 10 ( the one at Barton Bridge end ) keep to the left hand lane there is a bus stop on the dual carriageway about 200m after the lights for the slip road turn left just after it, there is a narrow one way road and you will bypass a lot of the congestion for the Trafford centre. Follow the road to the end turn left and first left off the roundabout Chillfactore is on left but take the second left which is after you pass CFe. |
+1 well done Speed098 anyone travelling definitely take this advice, the road mentioned is between the Trafford Golf Centre (huge double storey driving range complex) and the Premier Inn.
And + another for allowing extra time due to the roadworks and general Trafford Centre congestion.
I am still struggling to know if I can make it due to other engagement and various family logistics still hoping though.

I am just about to sign up, having created this account for my other half and just payid for myself, so I am writing in cognito! It isn't easy to create another account for someone else, it won't allow the same email address, so I have been doing all sorts of shenanigans!
I just wanted to check that the £35 includes a four hour ski pass, as that seems to good to be true to be honest, knowing the prices at CFe!!
Could we be cheeky and get two passes and then swap one with our 10 year old, who won't manage four hours, but happy to do an hour or two with either one of us, or is that against the rules?
Also, as you said above, there may not be much for her to try - not having skied since March, she probably will fall over a lot anyway!
Thanks
