Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mounting point-Am I beeing paranoid

Hi
Bought pair of Salomon Rocker 2 108 with Salomon Guardian bindings from spotconrad.de.Skis are awesome but I think they messed up with mounting point.I did secify that I want bindings at recommended by Salomon point that is -3 from true centre of skis. When skis arrived put my boot in and noticed that centre of boot is far behind this point. It is not that I am worried if they are still skiable as grown up skiing old school skis but now i like throw a little butters from time to time and also i believe Salo recommends this mounting point to make most of this skis.
I wrote to sportconrad three emails but no answer at all.Find it bit strange as i have never had any issues with them.Anyone had similiar issue with them? What my options are if they stay silent?
Thanks for any advice.

It looks like there has been abit of a misunderstanding and they have mounted it at -3 from the already -3 recommended mounting point.

pytek23, The skis heve been drilled so the deed is done............ I doubt if Sport Conrad are going to accept responsibility so why not just get re-drilled by say Jon Coster at Piste Office here in UK and put it down to experience, I assume you got a good deal from SC in the first place? Or ski on them, see how you get on and have redrilled in resort if its not to your liking, cost say £20 and they'll likely do it for you while you wait?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Deal was Ok but not as great as i expected. It is more about principals than liking how they ski. What annoys me is that I have not got any response from them.Besides redrilling brand new skis would leave bad mark on my soul Smile .I can easily do it by my local service The Grange Ashforby Hill.

pytek23,

Feel your pain, someone messed up installing quiver killers on a brand new set of skis I bought last Christmas. In the end I could still ski the skis (but not with inserts) and it was a private agreement with a ski tech (not backed by a Company) so I took it on the chin.

Jon Coster was very helpful at giving me some very good advice at Peak Christmas time although I don't live in the UK (which I still need to somehow repay him for).

Jon put the knowledge of many different so called Austrian "outdoor specialists / ski shops" to shame. If I lived near Jon I'd probably only let him fit the bindings even if I bought them online.

Having said that Sport Conrad do a lot of business - you should at least give them the chance to rectify the situation even if it's only a special deal on your next piece of ski equipment.

They're a ski shop.

They paid a tiny fraction of what you paid.

I assume you used credit card? Ask credit card to intervene and return skis for refund/replacement. They ignored your and MFRs instructions. Unless your message was not clear.

Stay on them. They ffed up on this so should make it right or give you credit to compensate.

If you buy from foreign suppliers it is always a little more complicated when things go wrong so just keep going, get a refund and buy British!

pytek23, Just a further thought.........I've always found SC to be excellent but from afar it might not be easy to establish liability (although they do speak excellent English), might be worth pushing them for a credit/ discount code you can use against a future purchase, but if you are concerned about the holes in your skis (which can easily be filled with no detriment to the skis performace) I guess you'll need an exchange and dig-in hard may be your best option. Personally I dont get too excited about kit being not perfect, in the end they are tools not jewels (as one of our SH's reminded me when we were traversing over hidden rocks off piste last year in my new skis).............! Good luck with it.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

pytek23, Judging by your pic the bindings are mount about 30mm back from where you want them. The heel locations on the Guardians are at 45mm centres & the toes are at 40mm centres to there's just enough room to remount 'em without their being any hole conflict.

Sport Conrad are a reputable outfit & it looks like a genuine mistake in that they mounted -3cm behind the regular mounting line as opposed to ski centre. They should replace the skis but the logistics makes that tricky/more costly so they'd probably be happier with a refund. If they were mine I'd push for a refund on the skis & just pay for the bindings, then remount 'em.

 You know it makes sense.

According to this Review

even - 3cm feels too far forward.

Quote:
As I mentioned, the Rocker2 108 has a fairly significant amount of tip taper and a recommended mounting position that is only -3cm from center. This leads to a sensation that you are (1) riding a shorter ski than you actually are and (2) placed really far forward on the effective edge / sidecut.

Would putting two sets of inserts in them be an option until you work out which binding mount position suits you best?

Stay on at them. Their customer service is pretty poor imv based on my experience of the Coreupt fire sale when they cancelled my order after despatching skis I'd paid for to other snowheads who ordered up to 24 hours later.

Inserts are actually good option. Thanks for an idea.I still will push SC for refund or replacement but if I do not succed I will go for inserts.
