When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The Weardale ski club were the pioneers of skiing in the Pennines and celebrated their 50th anniversary last year.

Peter S, what a brilliant film. I used to work with a lady who was one of the pioneers at Weardale , and I think her husband may be on the film installing the pylons. I suspect both now deceased although he was still alive a couple of years ago, as he was a patient at a pharmacy I worked at.
Is that Willington dry slope on the early part of the film? We learnt to ski there shortly before it closed, simply to avoid spectators if we were learning at Silksworth as friends were regular visitors.

As a native of Co. Durham, I was completely unaware of Observatory Hill and its sliding possibilities! Is it still accessible to the public? If so, now on my list of must ski places! Would be fantastic to get some turns in with those views of the castle and cathedral.

Brilliant video overall. As Weardale members, Mrs MA and I were enthralled. Shame on us but when you are skiing up there you just don't give much thought to the work that has gone on/still goes on to keep it all going. Hats off to all concerned, especially the early pioneers.
