I don't really know much about K2 skis, I'm looking at some Hardside's on sport-Conrad that are quite reasonable has anyone used these for touring, what were your thoughts?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'm more of a fan of the Sideshows, but all of K2s old metal-laminate touring ski range are nice enough. The weight isn't too bad, especially not if you're just doing day tours. The rocker profile is very nice, the skin attachments are handy and the topsheet does a good job of stopping snow sticking to it (but is also a bit prone to picking up scratches and gouges).
If I were buying a purely human-powered touring ski I'd be looking elsewhere though.

OwenM, I used these last year with Marker F12s I agree with what Haggis_Trap, says entirely. They were a good all round ski, light and stiff, I'm a big lad,so good for me. However they are a little heavy as a dedicated tourer but OK for a couple of hours. At 98 under foot they were sort of a compromise between powder and piste, not brilliant at either but OK for both.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

OwenM, same comments as the others. I have k2 hardsides in 178 ish and coomback in 188. happy with both but use the hardsides more (and even took them to Japan where they were adequate but wider and longer would have been better). i am 78 kilos and 5 ft 11, high standard skier. chose shorter length to deal with tricky touring/kick turning etc. one advantage of a bit more weight is that these skis perform well in all snow conditions. sport conrad also get the thumbs up from me in terms of price and service

I've used a couple of sets of Hardside's for touring and skied on the ski for years. It's a good solid alpine ski which works well as a touring ski if you don't mind the extra weight. I now go for the Coomback with a Dynafit binding because I wanted a slightly lighter and wider options. Hardside is a good ski!! So is Annex 98 which is the latest incarnation.

Thanks for the feedback, plenty to think about there.

One final comment : K2 skis measure long.
Basically K2 measure "effective edge length"
.... rather than "pre-pressed ski length" (which reduces one ski tips / tails are turned up)
Add 4 or 5cms to a K2 for comparison with other manufacturers.
i.e 188cm K2 is same size ski as 194cm dynastar.
Though dont worry about it too much - with the rocker they are fairly easy to handle.

Haggis_Trap, is that still true? I thought they changed a couple of seasons back...
It does make much more sense though and I wish more manufacturers would measure 'true length.'
