Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

If you've got internet have you thought about weather station?

No experience with measuring snow fall but would be interested in having a go...

The webcam will be accompanied by a weather station. Cool Quick update. We're not running yet being as the weather has kept us of the hill the last few days but the rope is now spliced, we dug a trench for the return wheel inside the engine shed before the ground froze up and someone also got to tow our broken down quad bike off the hill wink

I'm also waiting for a nutcracker to be delivered from NZ. Madeye-Smiley

Right then, snowheads, I've come-a-begging. Toofy Grin As per the above post, and admin's excellent suggestion, the crowd funder for a weather station and webcam on Lowther Hill is up and running so we're looking to get enough weather geeks, ski freaks, and webcam peepers to cough up a few quid to get this installed ASAP. If we go over our goal, any leftovers will help us buy a few more metres of portable snow fencing. Cool

I've used 'justgiving' as most of us in the UK know & trust the site. Sadly, unlike the US crowdfunding sites, there's no paypal option but justgiving charge less fees, and it only takes a minute to stick in your card details anyway.

Thanks, and off you go. Little Angel

Contribution made. Only about £150 to go before the target is reached. A small contribution from 15 people is all that's needed now. Of course, a bit more would be nice

Thanks JohnHSmith, much appreciated Very Happy

As you say, the sooner we can reach target, the sooner we can go live, and if we can get a bit more, we'll spend leftovers on more snow fencing.

This is part of Weardale's power generation provision for their set-up ...

Just a wee update on the fundraising. We actually exceeded our goal and winterhighland is expecting delivery of the kit for us any time now Happy

Here's a bit of video from Wednesday and a few photos too. Apologies for the video clip's funky look. I took it handheld with a wobbly pocket camera and it was uploaded by Anjo with the auto-stabilise function at youtube. His music choice too. Probably a good thing Embarassed ...

It's a never-ending effort, Peter. We've made good progress though, and more than a few doubters are already eating their words. Toofy Grin

A piste basher costs a lot more than the webcams/weather station and I'm not sure a 30 day crowd-funder would get the same level of support. Of course, we don't have to remain the only ski area in England or Scotland not to receive 'public' or 'lottery' money help towards what we need ...

We put a 'temporary' building on the hill yesterday for use as a shelter and club hut. Longer term, we'll either do our best to clad it in the style of a traditional Alpine lodge or get ourselves a purpose built one. We're hoping to get the webcams and weather station up and running later this week, courtesy of Winterhighland's expertise and funded by the kind donations from the public. We also span the rope tow for the first time yesterday which was a brilliant and very exciting experience ... I recorded some video which will be uploaded to the club website probably tomorrow.

A few pictures from yesterday, there was even some skiing done Madeye-Smiley ...

Whilst it seems everybody else was in the Highlands enjoying the best skiing of the season, we've had five days straight on Lowther Hill, drilling, cutting, fixing, wiring and networking data across what seems like the most erratic mobile coverage in Scotland. But touch wood (and we've done a lot of that since Wednesday), we're now on-line with 2 automated cameras looking down the hill across the club's ski slopes on Lowther Hill itself, all powered by just the sun and communicating to the world via mobile phone masts somewhere out there. We couldn't have done it without the dedication and expertise of winterhighland, and the Public's donations that bought the hardware to make it possible. We'll test the mobile networks over the coming weeks to find the most reliable operator, add the live weather feed and extend the camera network to include a view up from the club house too.
