Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

new boots for new ski's..

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

My cousin has bought a new set of ski's without bindings. When he went to get the bindings fitted a few days later he was told that he had to buy the boots here before they could fit the bindings (no holes have yet been drilled in the ski's for the bindings to be attached)??

Is this the usual procedure?

Cheers
Stuart

PS sorry if I'm sounding a numpty but no one I know has ever bought a new set of new ski's Puzzled

No, that's not the case. But he would need to bring the boots into the shop for them to mount the bindings.

(also, a lot of shops now are charging more for fitting through people buying online, then turning up at the shop and expecting them to mount the bindings, having lost the sale of the skis)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

stu20vt, ah yes, without the boots there is no point in mounting the bindings, as they may have to be moved again based on the boot sole size (which varies between boot models)

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

stu20vt, he could take his new skis unmounted and then buy boots in resort ( a better option) and then have the skis mounted there - which certainly should be free as he's just bought boots from that shop anyway...

Sorry not sure if your cousin is buying new bindings or re-using old ones. If buying new some bindings are now just mounted on the ski mid point and the toe and heel both move to accomodate sole length.(like rental bindings) I know the Atomic Neox do.

stu20vt, why should he buy his boots here, just take his new skis with him, buy boots in the resort and get them fitted.
