We are considering Mayrhfen for our ski extravaganze next season, so looking for some views and advice...
- what's it like?
- where to stay?
- best way to get there? Is it only Innsbruck to fly to?
- eating and going out?

Shawsy, A couple of points, You didn't say whether you were looking for a Tour Operator organised holiday or DIY, but DIY to Mayrhofen is very easy to arrange. If you are DIYing then although Innsbruck is the closest airport and you might find suitable flights it's worthwhile bearing in mind that Munich is also convenient and certain carriers like Lufthansa offer very good value flights there, e.g last season I got a return flight there from Birmingham for £99 (and Lufthansa includes free ski carriage as well). Whether you fly into Innsbruck or Munich then getting to Mayrhofen is easy - you can arrange taxi transfers if you wish, but the train is also a good option, just change at Jenbach onto the narrow gauge Zillertalbahn railway which runs all the way up the Ziller valley to Mayrhofen. Incidentally use of the Zillertalbahn along with ski busses is included in the Zillertal ski liftpass which enables you to check out the skiing at the other major areas of Zell am Ziller/Arena and Kaltenbach/Hochfugen, both of which are worth at least a day's visit whilst you are there.
You can find accommodation through the Mayrhofen tourist office.

Mayrhofen is a great place to go. In fact anywhere in the Zillertal would be a great base but Mayrhofen has corking nightlife . As Alastair Pink, says DIY is easy. We found a place through www.sunnyrentals.com near a ski bus stop but only 10 mins walk from town (in ski boots).
We flew to Munich and hired a car. Dead easy but beware the trip back to Munich on the Sunday afternoon was a nightmare and we only just made the flight (allow at least 4hrs for a return journey that should be 2hrs).
Loads of places to eat and drink in Mayrhofen and not too expensive either.
Fully recommend it.

As above, easy to get to, good value and a great laugh. As Alastair Pink says, DIY is really easy and if you book in advance to Munich you can often get a half price ticket on the train. You get more flights into Munich and so more often than not a good deals to be had. If you let us know what you are looking for in terms of accommodation, I am sure we can come up with some suggestions.

Go there. Anywhere in Zillertal is great. Been quite a few times and always want to go back, there's just so much variety and so many places to explore.

KLM to Munich via Amsterdam is another option (our only option from Edinburgh for a Sat to Wed trip, usually cheaper than easyjet too)
