valais2, very difficult for Brits to have anything other than an expensive holiday overall, though. If it weren't for the rate of exchange, I would ski there every year, for sure. I'd so love to return to the Jungfrau region just for starters, let alone Crans.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

same with France. The most expensive ski schools in France are British. You can get an hour's private lesson with ESF in Val d'Isere for under £40 and in my small resort for £30.

I agree. We have had some good value holidays in Switzerland. We've skied into the Swiss side of the PDS and I can't say I've noticed much difference in the drinks/lunch bills. We've gad good quality, good value kids lessons with a Swiss school. And often the Swiss resorts offer free kids passes to a much older age than is usual in France, sometimes for up to age nine rather than the usual age five.

That is because the big ski schools in France, the ESF and the ESI, can use partly qualified instructors who are cheaper to employ (same as in Switzerland). The British ski schools cannot, therefore all their instructors are fully qualified and therefore cost much more.

valais2, I'm still in the planning stages for the early part of next season, but depending on how things pan out, I may well take you up on that. Thanks!
