Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Has anyone shipped skis from the USA?

I have found a pair of skis that I really want at a retailer in the USA for a very cheap price.

The problem is that they normally only ship via USPS and say that there is a 150cm length maximum....too short .

Has anyone found a reasonable service from the US?

Given the time of year a slow service if OK with me.

i have bought skis from the US and they have been sent by Fedex or UPS
not cheap ($100ish IIRC) and you usually end up paying the full import duty and brokerage fees

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I bought a snowboard and bindings from the US. The galling thing was not paying the import duties, but paying the courier firm about €40 for processing the import duties etc.

I bought a board from the US and had to get them to send it. The manufacturer (Sean Martin @ Donek) paid all the fees (duty, VAT, courier) up front, so there was no mucking about at this end. If the retailer's savvy, that's more efficient than paying FedEx (or whoever) to colled the fees.

It's obviously cheaper to go and pick the stuff up directly if you can, but there are couriers who will ship boards over 1.5m (mine was 1.67).

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Use Bongo US and been satisfied with the service. They provide a US address to ship to, and then forward the goods. They used DHL for delivery this end and you pay the duty through them.
