By the way, I don't at all intend this as a helmet thread (I have no strong views, although I wear one myself) but wouldn't mind it turning into a 'too fast on an in-some-ways-not-that-safe blue run thread'. Or even into an it-doesn't-matter-because-he-was-doing-what-he-loved thread. But whichever way you hack it, it's very sad.

Simply horrendous, particularly if he was actively involved in the incident. I guess racing - if that's what was happening - takes the matter further away from the realms of chance. Or maybe not, I don't really know.

sorry, I think that was my mistake - a linked report about a separate (and exceedingly stupid) incident which fortunately only ended in lots of blood and stitches.
