Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

off piste guiding in Les Arcs

Hi all,

Contemplating a trip to BSM in late January and looking for some off-piste guiding/instruction.

I'm likely to be on my own (non-skiing partner) but am looking to join up with a group. So, just like a skischool lesson but really I'm only interested in doing off-piste itineries.

I've seen a couple of companies on the web :

Darentasia (ski-darentasia.com)
arc aventures (but are based in 1800, so may be tricky to make meeting times)

Has anyone any experience of either of these, heard anything second-hand, or have any better suggestions ?

I don't have any experience of off-piste guiding in Les Arcs, but here are a couple of other school/guiding services you might also want to consider:

Arc Aventures are very good - I've skied with guide Philippe Deslandes, very nice person.

Meeting time is 8h45 in 1800, that is, when the lifts open. I've also gone out for a day with Philippe to the Ruitor when he was working for the EDF making snow measurements. I'm not sure what his English is like though.
