kooky, 'next year' sounds like you intend making it a regular event - excellent news  I guess with more notice you might be able to make it look more 'official' and as you say might be able to collect directly another year. Was there any reason for selecting that particular charity or was it just that they are directly connected to the mountains and are a 'good cause'?

Megamum, I have lost a few family members and friends to cancer.
I have seen how debilitating it is looking after someone who is terminally ill .
We all need a break sometimes, and if this goes even a tiny way to help then that is a good thing.
I am pretty crap at almost everything I do, but I knew I could do this.
The mountains are a great place to heal, for renewing energy and for inspiring hope, I am just so grateful that so many have jumped on board, and have supported it.

kooky, couldn't have put it better. When I was at the hospice last week making pancakes for the guests (much better word than 'residents' or god forbid 'patients') I couldn't help thinking how nice it would be to whisk them and/or their relatives off to the beauty and tranquility of the Alps. That's exactly what this charity does. Fantastic cause. Cancer support isn't just about funding research, whilst that's brilliant in the long term, there are cancer patients, friends and families in the here and now who equally need support.

Snowdrop, It was actually very comfortable, even when you hit the odd shady section.
I too have nursed a family member at home, it can become very claustrophobic. This charity makes some very welcome contributions; the cost of respite breaks and the amount of organistion involved can easily escalate beyond what a family can cope with.
