Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Samoens new year comments please

Hi we are going for the new year week,no choice on weeks as teenagers with exams etc. and have booked apartment close to lift.

Have read reviews saying GM express will have long queues up and down and better to use Vercland lift. We are trying to decide whether to drive or fly. Have driven many times over Easter, and even have toll tag, but never new year.

Any comments or views on Samoens generally and especially how bad lifts/town gets in busy weeks or otherwise how busy eurotunnel will be are welcome,
Thank you,

We went to Samoens last new year and found it the busiest time in all of our visits to the GM. We have been at Christmas and 1/2 term and Easter and would not go at that time again unless absolutely desperate. We usually drive down on Friday and stay overnight at Bourg en Bresse arriving in the village mid morning so do not encounter any traffic and the ferry is quiet too. The GME out of Samoens and Chariande Express for the connection to Flaine were very busy with the GME queue taking around 40 mins or so. We never bothered with the CE as it was so busy and stayed in Samoens as the snow was good. Getting back down at the end of the day was also a nightmare with the lift company giving out free coffee at the top of the GME. One afternoon I left Samoens for Les Carroz from Samoens 1600m at 1400 and got back down to Samoens village at 1700. I reckon it should have taken 1 1/2 hours at most. Nevertheless we had a great time and there was a big new year party in the village with fireworks etc. We are regulars to the GM and Samoens but new year was very busy.

Motherof3, welcome to SHs. We went at New Year 3 years ago. The queues for the GME were bad but worse we couldn't park, it was really difficult to get a parking space. We took to driving up to 1600 and parking there, we were quicker than friends on the lift.

Re. Eurotunnel at New Year, try to avoid the peak times by leaving early or late in both directions.

our first time to samoens at new year just gone. Never again at this time of year, car parks rammed to capacity, long lines at the lifts, very busy slopes, utter carnage on the run back to samoens from the top of the chariannde lift. Spent most of our skiing over at morrillion, slightly better. Lovely town though, would like to go back when less crowded

Thanks to all for very speedy responses.

my worst fears confirmed! Still better to be forewarned. Luckily we are so close to lift we can walk, so might just try to get there v early... Or v late...
