Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski improvement courses - one long course or individual weeks

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

In a couple of years time i will luckily have the opportunity to go away for a season with the aim of improving my skiing.

I will be in my early 50s but still pretty fit. My standard is intermediate/advanced and i have skied for approximately 20 years.

Would i benefit more from one of 10/11 week course or split my time alternating between a weeks course and a weeks rest. (Sounds good!)

I am not interested in gaining qualifications or teaching, just maximising my opportunity to improve and socialise. I am happy to travel to America or Canada if this would help.

Any particular recommendations or experiences are greatly appreciated.

Regards.

James Eyre I am 54, and a similar skiing ability, and did a 2 week Improver course last year with SIA in Kaprun Austria last November and it was excellent. http://www.siaaustria.com/programmes/item/improver-clinic/

We did 6 days training , 1 day off then another 6 days . It was a great experience and not only did my skiing improve I also met some great people some of whom I am still in contact with . The weather was very foggy the first week and we also lost one day to high winds but we also had some fantastic sunny days with fresh powder which I will never forget. For me two weeks was enough and I think if I were to do another course I would just do a week .
I also had a very painful knee from day one which turned out to be arthritic and needs surgery but despite that and the cold foggy days it was definately the best thing I have done in the past 20 years.

I also considered longer courses, mainly Austrian ski instructor, but whilst many of these are excellent if you don not plan to become an instructor alot of the content is how to teach or German etc which is not relevant.

I am sure you will have great fun whatever length of course you do. Good luck !

James Eyre, Have a look at this lot they do some great courses and will bend them to your requirements. They do have many people in your boat doing the courses so you will not be out of place. http://www.yesimprovement.com
