Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Length Quick Q

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm 5'10" weigh 70kg Intermidiot skier
Q: what length piste skis should I be on?
I usually go for 170 which feel ok.
Is this the recommended length ?
Why no longer or shorter??

seems like a good lengh for an intermediate cruising the pistes, maybe up to 175 would even be ok, depending on your definition of intermidiot!

I'd only recommend shorter if you want to do shortswings and slalom turns all over the place.

go longer if you get a ski with tip/tail rocker (180/185 depending on the camber profile) as the running length will be significantly reduced while providing more float in powder. Also 180 would be a nice length if you want to ski big turns, fast on piste, no need at all to go longer than that for a piste ski!

dulcamara, thank you I have the chance to use some Rev 80s whilst away next week but they're 177 & was debating taking them. However they have a tip rocker so I should be ok on those in the anticipated powder runs.
So sorted

Plus they have that rounded tail which should shorten them up a bit as well, sure they'll be fun. Heard some good things about this ski, let us know how they fare!

this isnt aimed at franzClammer, but isnt it odd that we all refer to our height in feet and inches and ski length in cm, actually i can figure out why we do both but it occurs to me it would be easier to say im 178cm tall is 170cm ok (or even im 5'10" are 5'8" skis ok)

franzClammer, you know we are only about an inch different in height. FWIW I ski on 170cm on piste and get on fine. Indoors I run about 5-10cm shorter just because it is supposed to be easier to do so.
